I noticed the dell ones are only (I say that loosely lol) £500. what can you do on them? Can you put cdroms or dvds in them or use msn?

You can pretty much do the same kind of things as you can pn a PC. You need a High-spec one to run games though. An average one will run DVDs and Cds (as long as it has the right player) and you can use MSN as long as you have an internet connection.

a laptop is just a portable PC. Some have cd drives/dvd drives. some don't you just need to look at the specifications of the one you're looking at. What is handy is a built in wireless LAN card - that way if you're on Broadband, you can but yourself a wireless router (if you don't already have one) and then you no longer need cables trailing across the floor to your modem. I haven't had a desktop PC for about 5 years...

A built in Wireless LAN card is very handy but you can still buy a router without and stick a little wireless card in the side (still no wires). Chrissie x

But Chrissie, the wiress cards tend to stick out the side of the laptop and are prone to breakage (we* broke TWO in the space of 2 years - then bought a new one just before the old Laptop packed up (or rather till we* broke it) and the new one has a built in one - much better) I've had a laptop for work for a long time. Had a dekstop PC, but needed to free up some space so sold it and bought a laptop. Good points are - takes up less space, you can use it in any room. Bad point is - very rarely use my office upstairs (thats all I can think of lol) *we means Sharon lol
