Funny you should ask that.. Mum taught me when I was my daughters age (11) and she decided she wanted to learn so she could knit a blanket!! Well she gave up as soon as she started, kept dropping stitches and guess who has the sore fingers now? Debs x

I enjoy knitting although don't do much these days. Knitted some scarves last year in those wonderful new yarns like Fizz and Cosmic. Did some crocheting too when my niece wanted a poncho. Val, I don't mind sewing up. My sister used to knit for mine and her kids but posted all the bits to me for sewing up!! lol Janice

Yes, I do-baby clothes mostly now -used to knit for myself-would love to do one of these scarves on big pins -anyone know where to get pattern? Do you knit, Dee? Rosalyn

Janice

Janice Report 7 Nov 2005 22:29

Rosalyn, You don't need a pattern. What sort of wool have you got and what size needles? Janice

Yes, I Knit!! and I'm only 25. My mum taught me when I was just 4. I made my first jumper when I was 9 (nothing special just plain and purl). Recently I've made lots of things for my two little girls, age 5 and 2. My 5 year old won't wear a home knitted school jumper, they are fashion consious at age 5 now!!

I don't knit much these days. When I do it tends to be blankets, I'm using up all the oddments of wool I have left over from when I knitted regularly. I have a problem with sewing up, and when my mother in law was alive I used to get her to sew up some of my things for me Dee ;-))

Janice

Janice Report 7 Nov 2005 22:35

Dee, Can you crochet? If you hate sewing up this is an easy way to join blanket squares and it looks effective in a contrast colour. Janice

CATHKIN Report 7 Nov 2005 22:36

Don`t have the wool yet for scarf. Dee, I used to buy wool in hanks and crochet blankets, did a waistcoat once -wish I`d kept-and a white bag. Rosalyn

Yes I have done many baby clothes for family & also did lots of knitting for our daughter & later for her children, Cheap machine knits now available that have rather dimmed the pleasure of home mades & you can buy now cheaper than you can knit. BUT would always do a home knit for a special gift. Shirley

Janice Crochet is one thing I have never learned how to do. Gray I use needles to cast on, hadn't realised there was another method Dee xx

Valice in Report 7 Nov 2005 22:40

I cast on by needles, thumb method and needle method as if knitting a stitich, give loose edge, so I cast on by putting the needle between 2 stitches to give a firmer edge. Val
