Three weeks ago when the windowcleaner was last here two sets of my patio doors were filthy because of building work and garden work I've had done. The boss did one and his young lad did the other set. The next time the sun shone through, we're south facing so very sunny, the pair the young lad did we're covered in tiny scratches, and I mean covered. It must have been how he'd tried to scrape of the bits of cement etc from the builders. The window cleaners just been again and I collared him about it. We've ended up having a full blown barny in my garden - with him saying it can't possibly be them because the other ones are fine and I must have just not noticed it before now! From the blinking doorway of the room it stands out like a sore thumb when the sun shines. I'm so upset - he was really bellowing at me, in my own garden! No doubt with all the 'ladies what lunch' listening from their surrounding houses. Anyone know where he stands responsibilty wise, or if scratches can be polished out of glass like they can stainless steel? Thanks - blubbering Em x |

I would assume that you would get nothing from him because you have no proof that it was done by them, unless you have an independant witness, then you w ould probably have to pursue it through the small claims court. You could check if he belongs to any association that you could complain to. You need to check with a glass dealer or a double glazing firm about polishing the scratches out. Ann Glos |

I'm sure there's a cheap way of repairing scratch marks on glass - but I can't remember what it was for the life of me. Will let you know if I think of it. |

Clean the glass thoroughly, dry it with a lint free cloth. Put tooth paste on it, scrape it off, so that the tooth paste fills the gap. Let the toothpaste dry, and the polish the glass, should get the scratches out! :-)) |

Puff Pant Puff Pant gasp:)) I've have just been hareing up the road after my lovely young window cleaner, who did mine a while ago. He says that he doesn't know of anything for removing scratches but that may be because he has never made any lol:)) He says that if there was any cement on the glass and the window cleaner didn't remove it with (can't remember this bit) first, the cement would have rolled round the window and scratched it. He said though, that he is going to his glass company that supply his equipment in the next few days and he will ask if there is a remedy for you. If he finds out anything that will help he is going to drop round and let me know. Will keep you posted if he finds anything out. Chrissie xx |

Thanks so much all you guys - been and had a cry - 'cos I'm a big softy and don't like been shouted out. This guys about 6 1/2 foot so was towering over me. Phoned a couple of glazing companies and have been told that if there really shallow scratches they should polish out but anything you can feel with your finger nail won't come out - will need new glass. Haven't been out yet to feel them but will let you know. Think I'll need half a dozen tubes of toothpaste to try your trick Paul but I'll try it on a couple first and see what happens - fingers crossed. Chrissie - thank you so much for doing that - so very kind of you!! And thank your handsome young fella for me too ;-) Thanks for the support Steedie - he's still on the estate now if you want to bomb up the road and help me knee cap him - nice cuppa tea and a biccie after!! Thanks all, Em xx |

Scratches are about half and half. Some you can feel the goudge (sp) out of the glass but others you can see but not feel. There's about 25 different areas in total across the doors and the windows either side of the doors. |
