Yes its just a social club. At the EGM, not one member was allowed to ask questions and the rule book stated we could, if we put our questions in writing first and asked it to be tabled. On the night, we were told, no questions will be tabled, only the chairman could answer the points on the petition!! The committee mailed out to a huge list of members their campaign and on the night, the members who signed the petition were out numbered by members we barely see in the club. To be honest, it was so staged and quite comical. I do intend going to our local paper though, but am a little afraid too incase it upsets Lyns family in any way. If there is anyone on here who knows about rule books, i am happy to send it to you. |

Tony No it isnt im afraid. Dave did see a solicitor.....in return, the committee managed to otain from their solicitors, a whole new rule book! Rule unto themselves it seems and we are stuck with them for 3 yrs, not 1. Very sad, as its a nice club. |

Hi Donna, I'm just reading this update and do you know what that sad little lot remind me of? The 'committee' in The Vicar Of Dibley! Seriously! Particularly that awful, pompous character played so well by Gary Waldhorn(?). All good wishes to you and Dave, and I sincerely hope that good-for-nothing lot get booted off - and banned themselves. How dare they. x |

Donna The club belongs to the members. The Committee are only there to run the club according to the constitution and rules. Get some legal advice I know that a whole Council here in Western Australia were dismissed by the constituants for not abiding by their constitution. Please give it some thought as they sound nothing but trouble to me. I am a President of a Theatre Group and myself and Committee have to abide by the constitution. They can not change things to their own liking. if they want to change things then it has to be done legally. Constitutions stick unless an amendment is made legally. Hope things turn out OK I feel for you and Hubby Regards Jackie |

I think all the Members of your Club should put a vote of NO Confidence in against this Committee. It sounds like they are running a Kangaroo Court Committee and not adhering to the rules of the Club. Donna, are you a member of this Club? if so I would put the vote of no Confidence in yourself or get your friend to do it. They should be removed from office immediately, how uncaring are they. On the other hand we also had to dismiss one of our members from My Club for ungentlemanly behaviour and he is not allowed in the Club at all. But he is still friendly with one of the members and we were having a party for this person and did allow the dismissed member in for this occasion only. We are not that uncaring. Regards Jackie |

Why dont the family of the deceased hold the wake elsewhere, then the club will lose the money, perhaps that would make them think twice about being so pigheaded. Maddy |

To just try and explain in brief. Dave was a member of the commitee and did things by the book.....he found the Secretary wasnt quite as honest as he should be as far as figures were concerned and that the staff had no contracts and voiced his concerns. Dave resigned from the committee when the rest of them decided certain things should be hidden. (long story) The steward by now had, had enough and there was a huge row between him and the chairman.....long story short, alot of members wanted a petition to get an EGM called and have the committee voted out. Dave got the 100 members backing to do this. The EGM was a laugh and the EGM rules were not followed on the night....result, commitee stayed, secretary resigned. Two weeks later, Dave was written to and banned for life. Think thats it in a nut shell. |

Donna they seem very petty and putting their own feelings first rather than those of the family at such a difficult time. I hope they realise this in time and relent but if not then the most important thing is to be at the funeral and the family will know that you wanted to be with them afterwards too. Sue |

What miserable tiny little lives these people lead. Horrible for you and Dave and horrible for Lyn's family. But the most important thing is that you will be at the funeral for her, the Wake is mostly for the family and hopefully they all understand the problem. As you say, you and Dave go and have a drink to Lyn elsewhere, don't let them spoil your memories of Lyn. Ann Glos |

Whatever the rights and wrongs of Dave's relationship (or non-relationship!!!) with the committee, it is ridiculous that he can't attend a function where his presence would be of comfort to bereaved people. When I read your message Donna, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry - I don't think its sad or bad, I think its MAD!!!!! Thinking of you both, love Nell & Mel |

Would have thought they would appreciate people who speak their minds, or do they just like people who bow down to their every whim. Shame on them. Micheal. |

That is so bad. I think Dave is better off not being a member of that club. So sad that they can't even let him mourn a friend. Germaine x |
