Hi Sally. Welcome. You will find very helpful and friendly people on these boards. On the General board we talk and chat about everyday events, as well as genealogy, and also have a few laughs as well. The Tips board and Record office board's are also great places to add a query, or get an answer to a question. There are also many of us from the South West Pacific..... Australian's and New Zealander's who can help with answer's to a question if your looking for ancestors that came O/seas. Have a nice day. Tony Oz...:>)) Australia.

Hello Sally, very new at this myself, only joined genes in september in fact, only started my research then, so have an awful lot to learn myself before I could possibly advise anyone else. But I would not have found as many members of my famly if it had not been for the generous help and advice of the lovely nut cases on here. They are brilliant in a crisis, generous with advice and great to have a laugh with. Congrats on your own hard work so far and welcome to the boards. Lin

Hi Sally Welcome to the mad house. Don't worry we're only mad on family trees but we don't bite. The homepage has links to loads of info that would be good to read. If you go to the bottem there is a section called Genealogy resources. Work through each section and it will explain what information you can get from different things. For maiden names you would need marriage certificates or from 1911/1912 the index pages (which give you a reference to order the certificates) give the spouces surname and for births it gives the mothers maiden name.
