I read Bunty followed by Jackie then Fab208 as I got older. I also remember Sunny Stories when away on holiday. My brother had Dandy, Beano then Eagle and Hotspur, My sister had Judy, NMEetc. They seemed so much cheapar to buy in those days. You could actually afford to buy a few sweets as well!!!! Kath

I'm a bit further back than you, my favourites were School Friend & Girls Crystal. Always got the annuals for christmas as well, I think I spent half of my younger days reading these annuals. Used to get completely lost in them. Liz :-))))))))))))))))

I started off reading Mickey Mouse Weekly, then went on to Beano, Dandy and Beezer later. My much older brother had Eagle, Superman, Batman and (I think) Spiderman, but they didn't interest me. Being a musician, he used to buy NME and Melody Maker (obviously not comics though), so I read those from an early age and continued to buy them till I started saving for my wedding and decided to cut out unnecessary expense. I can't recall seeing a copy of either for over 30 years! CB >|<

Smash Hits I had the first edition of Smash hits, and funnily enough, in the paper today, apparently smash hits mag is stopping production First addition had words to Grease and your the one that I want.

I think I must be the only one who had Teddy Bear! I particularly liked his Uncle Fred Bear who was threadbare pmsl!! Still got some of the annuals somewhere. Also had Twinkle - loved the cut out dolls, then later Jinny (I think it was??) then Jackie. Who else remembers huddling over the problem pages sniggering??!! Maz. XX

Seems like a young peoples thread. Comics were one of the main thing which kept us going during the war. I used to get 4 a week and swopped them amongst friends. Starting with Chicks Own' then to the Dandy and Beano; then film fun and the knock-out; then to Wizard;Hotspur; Rover; Adventure; and the Champion. Have mentioned some time ago that I have a whole sheaf of same issue bunty,s in prime condition. Will be worth something one day. Happy days, long gone.

I think the first one I saw was Film Fun followed by the Champion. Then came the Golden, Hotspur, Rover, Adventure and Eagle together with Dandy and Beano. In the Hotspur, Red Circle School had a hero called Cripple Dick Archer who remained Captain of the Remove for about ten years !! The Adventure had Strang the Terrible a muscular Tarzan type dressed in a leopard skin while in the Rover there was a science fiction tale called 'Last Rocket to Venus' in which 'Radium Bombs' were dropped on earth (this was all pre-war, long before the atom bomb was envisaged !).

Hi Kathleen I started with Beano, Dandy Beezer & topper and then Jackie and Fab 208 and a music mag that I can't remember the name of now - er Blue Jeans or popstars maybe, Mum brought up a load of my old things some months ago and I had kept copies of Fab 208 there's a lovely article asking 'stars' of the day what life would be like in the year 2000!
