I started out in Sarf London was brought up in Norf London & I now live in Ireland and there is no way the Irish are anymore friendly than the people of London. The Londoners are a little more reserved and the Irish are a little more nosey lol. But people are people and they are all different. I really don't like generalising too much but there is a difference between people living in Big Cities and those living in small Towns and villages thats where the difference shows. The more people that say things like (these people are friendly or these others are not) the more people believe it to be fact. :-( Pat x

Are the British friendly? I think so and find it interesting that whole nations get steryotyped. The British are renowned for their reserve, but on the whole I find being in Britian a 'friendlier' experience that being here in the USA. That's not to say that Americans are not friendly, quite the opposite but as a Briton I find their 'friendliness' OTT and insincere. On occasion, people I've never met before greet me as if I'm their long lost relative, compliment me on things thay can't know anything about or are much too personal to my mind and hug and touch me in ways I find intrusive. Once again, it all seems to depend on perspective as other nations find the British 'reserved'/'unfriendly'.

This thing about the Brits and the Spanish,. Do you think it could be anything to do with the weather? I find that on a nice sunny summer day people are more apt to smile at each other than on a cold, wet, miserable February day in Britain. Maybe the added vitamin D from the sunshine has got something to do with it. Who knows.JJH

i think we miss out on such alot being so reserved, I do however have to say I was probably like that too when I first came to Spain, but mixing with various nationalities does make you more out going:-))

Roxanne

Jill in France Report 4 Feb 2006 17:01

Hi Roxanne. Here in France it is the same as Spain, any place you walk into everyone says hello. In the south of England we tend to not make eye contact let alone speak. Hi Bev. Jill xx :)

Hi Roxanne, been snowed under at work, and the fact that it is all pooter based work, major head aches when I got home, so gave my self a break, had last week of for the hard earned nevous break-down...lol, we would like to get to Spain later this year, but first going to France with mom, dad, brov, me, hubby and 2 son's, so a family holiday that should be hectic if nothing else, when we can get out your way next I will let you know, so that we can meet up. :))) Bev

Roxanne Report 4 Feb 2006 16:55

hi Bev, havent seen you on here for a while, how are you? when are you visiting Spain?

Speedy

Speedy Report 4 Feb 2006 16:53

Roxanne, I have found that here in Britain, if you say hello, morning or whatever to a stranger most give you a look as if to say who do your think your talking to or they think your looney, but in Spain, you are greeted with a smile and hola, so nice yep I love the Spanish they seem a lot more out going, and ready to give a smile and a warm greeting, now I don't want to offend any one on here, but we do seem a bit more reserved than the Spanish. Us Yorkshire lot tend to be friendly. Usually talk to anyone. Having said that it is harder these days to know who to talk to as there are some funny folk out there. Granny
