Glad you had fun Harry. This kind of thing worked in reverse in my house. Years ago when visiting my parents with 2 small girls, my father came home with an impromptu gift - a small paint set for each of them. 'You can't give them those, they'll make a mess!!' my mother cried. 'It's all right, Felicity lets them make messes,' was his response. They had a wonderful time with them and all the spills washed out. :-)

Oh for goodness sake, what's a bit of dirt. As a mum who has to do the washing for 2 young kids on top of a full time job I would've said if he's gonna get dirty why not let him strip down to undies and socks (both cheap to replace) then put an old tshirt/shirt over the top and let hime paint. He's waterproof and washable. If he's cleaned up before he goes home no one is the wiser. I think you did the right thing. You both enjoyed it and he will remember it as one of the best memories of childhood I am sure - being trusted to do a grown up job with grandad, painting a wall he will see from now on as a wall he painted himself. Well done. Maybe you should take a picture of him in front of 'his' wall and stick it in an album with a note and/or give him a copy. If he's like my kids and does show and tell at school it will be something to say he's done, and if not he can keep it somewhere in his room and maybe one day when he's older he'll come across it and remember what a good time he had. Harry when my 2 oldest lads were younger I sorted out old clothes and let them have fun, after all, the bits they missed I went over covering them, when they weren't looking, but they had so much fun it was well worth the mess that they made. Bev

He did a bit of painting, but was more interested in help with his homework - drawing of a compass with 16 points thereon. I went to a grammar school and only ever did 8. his sister was mad keen to paint and couldn,t be stopped. female power. Happy days

Thanks to you all for your interest. As far as the will goes, I,ve got a Rembrandt and a stradivarius. To borrow Tommy Coopers joke, unfortunately stradivarius couldn,t paint and Rembrandt made lousy violins. Boom boom Happy dayts

Are you worth much Harry? - cos if not, I think I'd better get this thread deleted before our fortune gets diluted by too many answers! LOL
