Hi Angela, I was intruiged with your statement (I know this also as I have law enforcement status on ebay and so can require ebay to remove certain listings Does this mean you monitor items on Ebay that are put up for sale, that you don't feel should not be on there? or Do you just check for TS, or is it something else? Sorry to hijack your thread Karen Kim |

I got an email from Ebay today, this is what it said :- Thank you for writing to eBay. I will be happy to assist you further regarding the suspension of your account. I have reviewed your account and I see that your account was suspended due to concerns we had for the safety of the eBay marketplace. Please follow the instructions in this email to have your account reviewed for reinstatement. Why did we suspend your account? Our User Agreement requires members to provide complete and valid contact information. We can suspend an account if we discover any discrepancies in this information. We can also suspend an account if we observe account activity which we believe may compromise the safety of the eBay marketplace. I have quoted the relevant section of the User Agreement for you: '8. Breach. Without limiting our other remedies, we may limit your activity on the Site, immediately issue a warning, suspend or terminate your user registration or any of your item listings and refuse to provide our services to you without notice to you: (a) if you breach this User Agreement or the documents incorporated by reference; (b) if, despite our reasonable endeavours, we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us; or (c) if we believe that your actions may cause us financial loss or legal liability.' You can read the entire eBay User Agreement on this page: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/user-agreement.html What can you do now? We will need to receive the following information to review your account for reinstatement: 1) Verification of your contact details 2) List of your correct contact information Please send us the information requested to the fax number or postal address below. Please ensure that you quote your eBay User ID on all correspondence. Fax number: UK: 0207 681 2348 International: 0044 207 681 2348 Postal address: eBay Investigations Department Attn: Suspension Appeals P.O. Box 9473 Dublin 15 Ireland ---------- 1) Verification of your contact details To help ensure the safety of the eBay marketplace, we would also like to verify your contact details. Please send us BOTH of the following: - government-issued photo identification (passport or driver's licence) - evidence of address (bank statement or utility bill). Note: Please send us PHOTOCOPIES, not originals. ---------- 2) List of your correct contact information Please list the following information on the cover sheet of your letter or fax: Email address: Full name: Address: City: County: Postcode: Country: Daytime phone number: Evening phone number: Best time of day to be contacted: ----- Please be assured that eBay treats your personal information with the utmost care. In accordance with our Privacy Policy, your documents will be destroyed once they have been reviewed. Remember that eBay will never ask you for personal information such as bank account or credit card numbers, passwords, PIN numbers or National Insurance numbers in an email. What happens then? Please allow up to two days for processing after we receive your documents. We will contact you via email once we have reviewed your account. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and look forward to your response so that we can resolve this matter as soon as possible. |

I have emailed them back, this is what I put in the email :- I have worked in the Financial Industry for the last 10 years. Reading between the lines I believe you are accusing me of being someone else. I can assure you my name is Karen ******* (surname taken out for here) and that I live at the address that i registered with yourselves. i am not happy to fax any ID to yourselves. If you would like to send me your direct email address I will be able to email you from my work email account which will verify my name, alternatively if you prefer, you can email me. My work email address is ************. *********** is part of a national company owned my ****************. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future so this matter can be resolved. |

Hiya Penny I hate standard letters, I'm not sure if this is 'get rid of them' ltr or a 'lets make things so hard they will go away' ltr :-) I think they forget that at the end of the day their an auction site where people buy and sell things. If i went to my local auction house I wouldnt have to prove who I am before I could put my hand in the air to bid on something and I refuse to provide them with all the details they want to prove who I am. I had problems re my bill the other week & they kept replying with the same standard letter it was so annoying!! At my place of work all accounts letters are 'signed' by the same non existent man. But customers keep asking at the branch for that man!!! Why do we do it? Penny |

Hiya Penny Thanks for asking. I'm still arguing with them at the moment, they wont consider unsuspending my account until I fax them photographic id and address id which I am not prepared to do, I have asked for a copy of their complaints procedure and also asked for details of which techniques they have used to verify my identity and they still keep sending me the 'until we have ur ID we wont consider reviewing your account' email, but I'm not giving up without a fight. Karen Very strange isn't it. I think ebay is great...................................... until something goes wrong & then its all just standard letters/ no longer interested. Hope you manage to get to the bottom of it all & hope ebay learn from this - but doubt it!! Penny |
