sorry was out at Morrisons! Little book doesn't give websites I'm afraid but this is what it sez .... Woodgrange Park - now this is the cem there was all the fuss about as they dug up a load of graves to build flats. The records from about 1909 are held at Badgehurst Ltd, Fen Lane, Orsett, Grays, Essex, RM16 3LT, Tel 01375 891440. Cem is in Romford Road, London E7. Wouldn't recommend a visit - Karen has been and will tell you it is horrid there. Walthamstow Cemetary is in Queen's Road, London E17. I went there once for someone on Genes and found the groundsman very helpful - he took me straight to the plot I needed. Happy to go there any time for you! Records from 1872 to date are held at Chingford Mount Cemetery, Old Church Road, London E4 6ST, tel 0208 524 5030. Manor Park Cemetary is in Sebert Road, Manor Park, London E7 ONP. I've been there to find my sister's grave - they were EXTREMELY helpful. Happy to go there anytime for you. The records from 1874 are kept there Tel 0208 534 1486. I think you may need to consider City of London as well - its the largest cemetary by far this side of London - and it is just the other side of the road from Manor Park Cem. They are quite helpful in the office, it is where my Dad and all his side are, so am happy again to visit any time. Address is Aldersbrook Road, Manor Park, London E12 5DQ. Tel 0208 530 2151 - records start 1856. Sorry for delay hun, hope this helps. Maz. XX ps - if anyone else needs photos of graves in this area, or info on cems/crems in Greater London, please feel free to pm me :-))

Thanks for that Maz.... fancy going shopping when I needed you....... I have plot numbers for Woodgrange and Walthamstow. For manor park, I only have a reciept for the funeral, although this actually gives date of death as well as date of funeral. Will write to Woodgrange and see what they say, if anything.... and if you can find out what is at the other two, I might even take a trip up there myself. Will mail you if thats ok? had a look at the city of London cemetery as they have some of their registers online, but can't find any of my lot their. Haven't really done much on the deaths as was never sure which cemetry they was in. But with these three can be certain LOL Karen thanks for that had a look, but what i really wanted ( but didn't actually say) was a map of the plots

Zoe Report 9 Feb 2006 16:04

if that death lady from the East End is still about.... can you suggest a cemetry for a death of someone lived mIle End Road in 1837?

Shelli4

Shelli4 Report 9 Feb 2006 16:06

Zoe Maz will prob know more but my death in 1966 gives address, as Mile End Place, Mile End Road. He is buried in Manor Park Cemetery.

Shelli4

Shelli4 Report 9 Feb 2006 16:08

Zoe scrap last message as Manor Park didn't open until 1875 Sorry

Zoe

Zoe Report 9 Feb 2006 16:08

Shelli I seem to remember being told that Manor Park and City of LOndon weren't open that early - but I could be imagining it.

Zoe

Zoe Report 9 Feb 2006 16:09

oooooooooooh - we posted those at EXACTLY the same time - to the second

Shelli4

Shelli4 Report 9 Feb 2006 16:12

Zoe Scarey LOL Yep you're right neither was open at that time just checked ity of London as well. Even tower hamlets didn't open until 1841. I thought ( wrongly prob) that most peeps was buried in churchyards, until they was full. then cemeteries were opened as the churchyards couldn't cope????? This is why so many cemeteries were opened at appox same time. Might be worth working out local church to Mile End rd???

Shelli4

Shelli4 Report 9 Feb 2006 16:14

Karen so not worth a letter then you reckon??? Zoe check out the website Karen left earlier. very few cemeteries were open that early In London. Think parish records your best bet...

Shelli4

Shelli4 Report 9 Feb 2006 16:20

Karen I have grave number, but then i suppose there is a good chance it may now be under the new development??? mmmm will have to think as I was curious as to whether anyone was buried with her? not that fussed LOL won't break down any brick walls, just tidy things up abit, no loose ends.

Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 9 Feb 2006 16:28

Hi Shelli, sorry got frozen out! Yep, mail me the details and I will go sometime after half term. Might even drag Karen along lol. (she will be 'washing her hair' that day I expect) Zoe ... The only cems I can find open in 1837 are Bunhill Fields (City Road) Kensal Green St Thomas Square (Hackney) West Norwood unless they happen to be Jewish????! I would imagine a churchyard is more likely. Lots of the churches where burials were dug up, have been re-interred at City of London funnily enough. I think you need the LMA hun - why not ask phone them to look into what records are available as a starting point? I don't think there were very many different churches in the East End in those days, so it may not be too difficult to find. Maz. XX
