I've got to wear school uniform but don't like it because I'm only at school voluntarily.

Black A-line skirt (wasn't allowed to wear trousers), White blouse with school tie, Black V-neck jumper, Black blazer, shoes and tights - nylon. Had to wear the tights even in Summer. Flipping horrible when it was hot and you had to walk 2 1/2 miles to get to school or home. Joy

Grey pleated skirt - could be box or knife pleats pale blue shirt pale/navy/black/white striped tie grey jumper grey coat blue beret grey knickers grey/white socks blue gym shorts blue netball skirt grey hockey culottes etc etc Skirt had to be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee when kneeling. Summer dress was made of blue/white/black thin striped material, it had to have sleeves and a high neck. But in the 6th form we could wear our own clothes - but no trousers, miniskirts or sleeveless tops. nell

We had a lovely uniform at Lady Edridge Cream shirt and purple/blue /yellow striped tie Navy blazer with a gorgeous crest depicting a crocus in purple and lilac Navy velour hat with yellow ribbon band and badge (same as crest) Navy skirt. Summer was a lilac gingham checked dress - not too fashionable but quite nice! We had to take our hats off when passing the local seconary modern other wise we would have been beaten up! Think that school uniforms are a really good idea as they give a sense of pride and identity! Allie

Navy blue serge 8-gore skirt that had to touch the ground when you were kneeling down. Now the skirt is more flared and light blue and navy soft check. Pale blue long sleeved shirt - same now, but V necked. Navy tie - no ties now. Navy blue V neck jumper - cardigans allowed now, not in my day! White long socks Stockings or tights were allowed after 4th form Brown flat shoes! (I've never ever worn brown shoes since!) Now they wear black shoes, goes much better with navy blue! Navy blazer with school badge and motto - In God we serve. Navy velour hat - which invariably had a crease at the back of the crown and was worn as far back on the head as gravity would allow! Straw boater with French navy coloured ribbons in the summer.. No hats at all worn now. Summer dresses were pale blue and white striped, with a white collar and trim around the short sleeves. Worn with a navy belt and cardigan - we looked like refugees from the nurses home! Navy blue knickers for PE and games (with pocket for our hankies!) worn with a pale blue Aertex shirt. We also wore a fetching little pale blue, Greek style short dress for Dance - and were bare footed of course! 40 years later my children and grandchildren roar with laughter when I describe my school uniform! Almost forgot, my boyfriend( now my husband) used to pick me up from school on his motor bike. I would take off my velour hat to put on my crash helmet. My French teacher, Miss Moore, would stand at the school gates and shout - 'Susan put your hat back on'. So I did - on top of my crash helmet and we drove down the road with my hat blowing in the wind on a piece of elastic! That got me many a detention, especially as all the other girls were helpless with laughter at her stupid request! Sue xx Hello to all the other Nonsuch girls out there :o)

Sue - you remind me of my mother! She had a beret as part of her school uniform. Her cousin picked her up a number of times on his motorbike, and she use to do a quick swap beret for helmet! she and her cousin had tthe girls talking as they all thought he was her boyfriend, she was about 13/14 and he was nearer 20! She'd have killed me if I'd done the same though.

Ours was brown and bottle green...yuk! It was a childrens home/boarding/convent school. We had to wear TWO pairs of knickers. the white was changed daily while the bottle green was changed twice a week. We had to put out knicks and vest on while still under the bed clothes before lining up for the cold water wash in the bathrooms. On Sundays we got to wear our Chaple dresses....dont ask! ... Also we earnt the right to wear a felt chaple cap with a tassle....blue if we were goodish....green if we were gooder...and gold if we were teachers pets...... I once wrote home telling that I had got my blue tassle!(Mum thought I'd gone mad) only to write another letter the next week to say that I'd lost my blue tassle :-( I lost one shilling a week pocket money too....NO sweets that week! I rarely got my one bob! lol Gerri x
