Steedie, go for it. Look, what 's the worse that happens - you change your mind and decide it isn't for you? OK just do something else to bring home the bacon. At least you will have tried. Or think, if you learn all the basics and can fix taps, refit a bathroom etc but you can't get your head around boilers and heating, you would still be able to do a lot of work that is necessary, and you would save yourself a fortune if you wanted to do diy at home. Give it a go - I have got a bathroom needs work so you can practise in Norwich whenever you like! |

I have heard of 'The Princess and the Pea', but 'The Princess and the Plum' is a new one. If you really want to do it girl, you go for it. And as for the exploding taps and backed-up toilets there is no end of protective clothing available these days. There is not much heavy lifting these days either. |

Hiya My bro is a Heating Engineer, he was lucky enough to be able to get apprenticeship through one of my Dads friends who also paid towards him going to college on a day release thing. My bro has been a heating engineer now for about 15 years, he went self employed for a while but prefers working for a company which he now does and is well respected. He fitted my central heating system for me and fitted my parents bathroom for them, about the only thing he doesnt do is put his hand down the loo to sort out blockages (his company deal more with servicing boilers and fitting new central heating systems etc) but hes done most parts of the Plumber/Heating Engineer role overtime. Speak to your local adult education centre to see what courses they offer. Good luck. Karen |

Steph - if plumbing is what you really want to do the go for it. life is to short to be filled with what ifs. Follow your dreams and an fullfil them. I think you have found a neich in the market, but remember that boilers are heavey and it may take at least 2 people to get it into place. The only problem I can see with being an all girl company is equal opputunities regulations, you would have to get a disclaimer so you don't have to employ men. I'm sure there would be a way to do it but you would need to plead your case. Sorry but I'm going to sing!! A dream is a wish your heart makes When you're fast asleep In dreams you lose your heartaches Whatever you wish for, you keep Have faith in your dreams and someday Your rainbow will come smiling thru No matter how your heart is grieving If you keep on believing the dream that you wish will come true (Cinderella ) |

Steph, you only get one chance at life. You follow your dreams, and if you fail you will have given it your best shot. Do you know a plumber who you could 'shadow' for a day to really get an idea of the work they do? Ann Glos |

People will pay practically anything to stop water/sewage running all over their houses. But you will need to get au fait with the latest boilers etc which all look like nuclear reactors to me! nell |

Oh my God!!! I've always wanted to be a plumber too - I'm really good at it and pretty much self taught but I can plumb in a bathroom on my own etc I'll be your business partner if you like. Can we have our vans spray painted pink tho?? WIth glittery lettering My other plumbing like busines v enture would be a company actually called Cowboy Traders - also aimed at single women - whereby whatever workman you need comes round to teh house and does your plumbing, electrics, tiling or whatever but they do it dressed as a cowboy - stetson, chaps, checked shirt - only all the young hunky tradesmen I've asked to join me have laughed at it Z xx |
