not hobby. work. trying to do a complex database recovery and a) it takes 45 minutes of tedious pointing and clicking on several hundred files to set it up, b) it ran over night and failed in mysetrious circumstances, and c) now I'm trying to run it again and the bloody GUI keeps resetting (so the pointint and clicking keeps having to be restarted).

well yes, the restore is running again, but... well I'm not 100% sure why it failed in the first place... I'll be checking it periodically for the rest of the day (its expected to run for about 12-15 hours - its a lot of data, 2.5 terabytes)

Joy

Joy Report 4 Mar 2006 13:34

12 - 15 hours!!! I thought 2.5 hours was excessive! and thats a little laptop!, best pop back at least once an hour then just in case. Fingers crossed.

Joy

Paul abot 40 gig, from memory, but that was running alot of sercurity programs simaltiniously. It can still take an hour with everything shut down! Size is not the only factor mind, you have to take into consideration the processing speed. *remembers spending 12 hours booting up a spectum as a kid*

yes you're right. This is restoring from 4 LTO tape drives, down a twin fibre channel into a 6 CPU unix server. 2.5terabytes of data, spread over about 200 disk drives. fairly big lol (I had a sinclair spectrum too, one of the first ones with the rubber keyboard)
