Hi Jenny It will probually take you longer to go throught baggage, customs and duty free than to fly. No one has mentioned, as the plane goes up and comes down you have equalise the pressure in your ears, you will either get some pain or it goes quiet, all you have to do is pinch your nose and blow with your mouth closed and your ears will pop, having a sweet helps as well, it is the same if you have been scuba diving. Acolhol can give you a headache because of the cabin pressure. If you are drinking it is better to take a small bottle as it is very expensive to buy at the bars in the airport. Once you have done it, I am sure you will want to do it more, on a short flight I don't think you will be served a meal, but on your next flight of a longer duration, unless you are small, an aisle seat is better because, you get the use of the gangway and you cannot see all that much except clouds Oh you can get to the toilets easier!!!. Good luck and when you come back let us all know how it went James |

Jenny I understand your fears but I would echo the others' comments. Husband and I were on holiday flight and the woman opposite us was absolutely shaking with fear when we took off, only just holding it together. The cabin crew were brilliant, whisked her off to the cockpit with her son, who was obviously excited about meeting the pilot. She returned with a huge grin on her face and settled down for the rest of the flight. You can sit on the plane with your eyes closed, earplugs in and g & t in your hands. You will be fine and I know you will have a brilliant time. nell |

I'm so glad you are going. I too am terrified of flying. I worry sick for weeks before. I find if I have a drink (or 4) as soon as they are available it helps! We flew down to Nevada last summer with a group of us Merseysiders. They all knew how I felt about flying. How embarrasing when 43 sets of eyes are on you as we are taking off :) Once you are in the air, just think of it as being on a coach. - I have a 10 hour flight to the UK to see my rellies. Deb |

Oh Jenny, I am terrified of travelling on land, but I have travelled by Air. that was nearly 20 years ago when I was 6months pregnant,, I was terrified but excited too, my Aunt paid for an all time holiday for me to go to Ireland for 10 days, I thoroughly enjoyed the flight both ways and had a fantastic holiday even though it was in November time, pluck up the courage and go girl go! Rescue remedy is good. Alternative could be a drive to Holyhead - albeit a longish one and short ferry ride to Dun Lourgaire (cannot remember how to spell it lol) JA |

Thanks everyone apart from Glenys and Bob.. I really thought you were my friends lol. Anyway, only ten minutes ago, my Daughter phoned. I have said YES YES YES. Go ahead and book it all up. Between now and Wednesday 29th March, you will all wish you had never heard of Mommylonglegs and her fear of flying. Bob, I want a Certificate the same as Gaynor Bear when I have done it. Jenny xxx |

jen, i am not a fan either but... it will only be a short flight and if the getting there really does you in, you can always come back another way. i have only done it twice in my life, and although it sounds odd, try and get a window seat, anywhere but above the wing, so a you go up you can see and 'equate' what was happening - it certainly helped me the second time, although i thought i wouldnt want to look, it did help. like you say, there is a whole wide world out there jess x |

Aww Jenny, I have ancestors from Ireland, and only just now Bob and I were talking about going there, when pigs fly and finances permit! Go on, go. Have a great time. However, it's only fair to say that the only thing I have against flying is that it makes your arms ache ............... x |

Mommylonglegs A short plane journey is great for a first time flyer, just think of all the people that have to fly frequently for their jobs etc or pop stars & celebritys who may not like flying, but have to overcome their fears, Im sure that after you have done it once you will want to do it again. Go for it.......you will have a great time Good luck Rosi |
