While I was in Australia last October, I received a call from my youngest daughter to say the she had been arrested , accused of assaulting her ex-husband. He had come into her bedroom, gripped her round the throat and she had swung out in defence and caught his lip with her ring... causing a small cut. The story which she told me I did not hesitate to believe her… she is my daughter… I gave birth to her… and anyone who knows her, knows her to be an honest , truthful and wonderful girl. I know we all say this about our own but she has many friends who say the same, and everyone she meets is of the same conception. Her ex insisted that she be prosecuted, taking the path of being a battered husband!! It went to court, and the first time appearing it got adjourned for him to appear too, as the magistrates wanted to see his face in person and not just photographs!! You see, in the photographs, it looked like he had a swollen face…. He didn’t… it was just a fat, ugly one!!! No swelling or bruising anywhere, as the policeman who gave evidence for the prosecution admitted. Today we had a nightmare of a day. Walking to the court out of the carpark, we came face to face with him and his friend videoing us right up to the court doors. We spoke to the officials who witnessed this so we have it on record. When questioned on the stand he denied this!! My daughters current partner of over a year, was threatened by her ex last week, so this record is another incident which they can produce when an harrassment order is made out against him on Monday. I had to stay outside because I may have been called as a witness, … however, my daughter was so brave and just told the truth and I am so proud of her. Her ex went in the witness box and his evidence was anything but the truth… he contradicted himself so many times you wouldn’t believe. First he was half asleep, so the solicitor questioned him on how he was supposed to have had an in depth discussion of 40 minutes with her about the children. Then he was awake, so it was “But I thought you were half asleep Mr ********?” “Well, I forget”……. lie after lie. One thing I was always told… a liar has got to have a good memory!!! HE DID’T!!! He got more flustered by the minute and started to get arrogant, as he always does when he is in a corner, and then he was told he could leave the court!! We had to wait for the verdict….. NOT GUILTY!!! Thankyou so much to everyone that sent messages of support to me on the other thread, my daughter thanks you too, and so does her partner,,,, many , many thanks!!! Anne, did you mentionthe incident a while ago, or did I imagine it? It just sounds familiar, that's all. Well, familiar or not, that was a despicable thing for that specimen to do to your daughter.
