No one in our school is in Unison so the school was open as usual. I did drive to the library in the next village as my books were due for renewal and found it closed due to the strike ! Chris

My son's school is open today so he is at Nursery this afternoon. The adult education centre is closed though so my son isn't at their creche this afternoon. My friend has a class there this afternoon and so takes my son with hers to the creche as they are short of children! and tomorrow afternoon when I have my class I take her son their with mine (they are both 2) so we both get one child free afternnon a week. Only I don't today!! Joanne

As fae as I can tell the schools are open in my bit of Kent (Tonbridge) today. The Reference Library's closed, but otherwise business as usual. My children are definitely at school, I've just come back from watching the eldest play hockey.

my son has gone but taken a packed lunch, Just realise it is our bin day today so waiting to see if they bother coming round or not. Get fed up with people complaining about their work conditions. Just look at how it was a few years ago. Even now I dont have any pension to look forward to but I am not striking about it I just get on with it. Lived below the poverty line most of my life so will continue to do so in later years.

Jeanette. There was a little boy of 9 in your area that wrote to the staff of the school. He wrote asking them not to go on strike and'' they weren't setting a very good example'' Don't know if the staff are on strike until Calendar tonight. Sue

Morning Sue! Hope you're enjoying your holiday! I'm not saying that the strike is wrong, just that it seems a bit odd that some schools are managing to stay open and some aren't........especially as you say there are 9 unions on strike. Surely 9 unions must cover virtually all council workers.

There are 9(nine) unions on strike today and every one that is out on strike loses a days pay. Luckily for me I am on holiday or I would have been out on strike.I am in GMB union. Sue

My youngest tried with a 'i've got a sore throat' but both of mine are at school. Sun's shining and I've done almost all of my housework!!! Just had to stop for a drink so thought I'd see what's going on on here. Have a good day wherever you are. Julie x

Forgot to mention, if you were thinking of crossing the Humber Bridge, today would be a good day as there is nobody to staff the toll booths........so you can drive across free of charge! My sister came across this morning as we were going to lay some flowers to mark the 4th anniversary of my Dad's passing away. She was right chuffed cos she saved a fiver!
