She died whilst in the custody of the Prison Service. An inquest or post mortem many have been necessary, just as a formality, so that nobody could accuse the Prison Service of doing away with prisoners. If there was an inquest, this could have delayed the death registration. But this is guesswork.

My dad died in January and we got an interim death cert. The full cert was issued after the inquest in march .

Do you not have to have a death certificate to have a funeral?

I know its a different person, but same subject i guess. Did anyone see Ian Brady's cell in the papers a few years back, it was 'a day in the life' of thing. His cell has carpet, matching duvet cover and curtains, his own TV and VCR, along with Hi Fi (may have been a radio), As he has nightmares (get that eh) he has tablets to help him sleep. All this because he is at risk from other inmates!!! Shameful.
