Thanks Debbie, i will try that out and see what happens. Karen. You are not greedy. They all sound intresting. My grand father`s family came over from Russia in 1895. My cousin who spent 8 years on that family tree discovered it. We discovered each other on Ancestry. I had left a message a year or so back. I had not been on for sometime because of illness and you can imagine the surprise and delight i felt when i saw her message. We got in contact by phone and she told me to sit down and explained it all to me. We are also from Lithuania(i think that is how you spell it). But she is having problems getting past the RED TAPE that seems to surround everything. Vanessa

Debbie. My nanna`s maiden name was MCKEGG. Trying to trace them back is maddening. The surname keeps changing. I am now at a marriage in 1847 Ripon north yorkshire. The spelling is MCCAIG.(AHHH!!!). The MCKEGGS has i will call them because that is what is on nanna`s cetificates have lived in YORK. (i still live here). But i am trying to find out were they originated from?(hope i spelt that right). My hubby thinks it is scotland, while i have been trying to look in Ireland. What a headache. But i am enjoying it enormouslly. Vanessa

She was under five foot but boy was she feisty. She was born in 1904 and passed on in 1978. Three children, my mum was the eldest. Travelled to india and had my mums brother over there. Granddad was in the army and died in 1940 over here. I am having a rare old time trying to track down his death certificate. The records on Ancestry say he died in York. But the registry office have no trace. Will have to do a search at the berracks he was based in. Oh what fun!! Vanessa

What a brilliant woman Debbie. I have managed to find all but one of my grandmothers sibblings. I have her birth but god knows what happened to her. My nanna used to make me laugh. If you wanted to go and visit her you had to make an appointment. If you turned up unexpectedly she would not open the door. She refused to have a tv. Said she prefered to talk to people rather than listen to them from a box. Still loved her to bits. Named my youngest daughter after her. Vanessa

I would also love to meet my great gran (different one), she had 11 kids between 1857-1878, only 1 died in infancy, my great grandad died in 1881and she never married again. She raised 10 kids on her own then 7 grandkids who were orphaned and she lived to be 81! She must have been some woman!

Vanessa, If they don't go AWOL, then they just don't appear, by that I mean...........presently I have a whold family my g g grandmother and her four children in 1851. I know what happened to the eldest, she was my g grandmother. Just found her middle brother's death. But out of all of them it's the youngest brother's birth I need to find to discover his father, who was dead by 1851. He was born in 1843........and can I find his birth........not on your life lol!!! Jen

Hi jen. You are so right. Maybe the census people spoke to them when they were in mischeivous moods. I am also having problems finding my great greatgrandfather. He and his whole family seem to have gone AWOL on the 1901 census.AHHHHHH!!!!. Vanessa Sorry. That should read great grandfather!

Both of my elusive Grandparents. They were travelling stage actors and had my Father fostered. His last memory was watching them when he was very young. I would like to step back in time and watch on-stage from behind ' the wings '. Mau x

John Report 18 Apr 2006 11:12

Find out where my Grandfather is. All I have is a name on three birth certs, and he was a merchant seaman just before the first world war, and supposedly never came back (or found someone else). It will most probably all be revealed when the 1911 cencus is released. Anyone who knew anything is now in a better place.
