Oh, you are all so lovely, I wish we could make a little village community next to a sandy beach for just GR peeps - heaven. Its not so much we HAVE to walk Ralph on the beach its just if we do, it has to be sand because he couldnt manage hard stones. As long as there is plenty of grass for him everywhere he should be ok. He is such a dear little soul, everyone loves him. But it breaks your heart to see him struggle on pavements. I have suggested to hubby getting him a little trolley to sit in when we are on hard ground but he thinks that would be worse for Ralph.

Heather, we live in Herne Bay, Kent. Rather pebbly I,m afraid. Don't forget, on most beaches, dogs are banned from using them between April and September

Dymchurch and St Mary's Bay have sandy beaches too - not sure of the rules regarding dogs though. Christina

Just looking at all the estate agents and getting a little depressed over the sort of place we want as opposed to the sort we can afford. I know eldest son said to me, Dont get a place that I will feel sad when I come to visit you. I am using that criteria as I search and so far the ones we can afford would make son sad. Or are we being to cautious? Idea was to buy a place now, rent it for a while and then sell this place and move chain free with a lot of dosh in our bank account to keep us going. Is that the right thing to do (have we always done the 'right' thing and never got anywhere?). Perhaps we should be like others who just borrow the dosh and somehow manage.

Lisa, West Wittering in West Sussex is very fancy dancy!. I think Heather was considering a possible move to the poor cousin next door, East Sussex! lol! Ok, so we've got pebbles here in East Sussex and they've got sand there but our seagulls fly lower than theirs and do more damage! Dawnie, the Dotto train's still chugging along the seafront and the Health and Safety Wallas monitor it like an exocet missile! Hal, whereabouts are you? We're in Old Town. Cherryx

Thanks Guys, when you say Eastbourne 'top end' what would that be called please? Camber is a shame as it doesnt seem to have any real community, does it.

Heather All the way from Winchelsea round to Brighton are mainly pebble beeches until tide goes out. Camber is the closet for real sand.

The top end of Eastbourne is grassy and there are nice soft walks over the 'Seven Sisters' towards Beachy Head. Hal.

Many thanks guys, its surprising when you go to these local sites that they dont have a lot of info. Lovely idea about walking promenade but Ralph wouldnt be able to manage such a long walk on hard ground. As I said I do have roots back to 1550 (recorded) in Pevensey/Eastbourn/Brighton so that would be a bit well more like going home as I dread leaving here (husband is determined, particularly since the neighbour from hell experience - also he feels he will continue to be offered work in this area and wont be able to turn it down, so could be working til he dropped). Pevensey Bay seems expenses and all the photos show a pebble beach?. Ditto Eastbourne unfortunately.

Hythe is a pleasant historic town but sadly lacking in sand, especially since coastal protection work. Dymchurch, west of Hythe has vaste expanses of sand, (as has Littlestone and Greatstone?) but these are small coastal communities in long ribbon-like formation mainly. There is a summer ban on dogs on beaches, I believe. Gwyn

Hi Heather I'd endorse the Eastbourne idea.Pevensey bay and most of the way alomg to Rye is sandy and the house prices are miles cheaper than Brighton!! Good luck Angie x

Cherry Report 29 Apr 2006 11:16

Heather, I'd advertise Eastbourne! Unfortunately the beaches are only sandy at low tide but you could take your boy for a lovely walk along the promenade, then pop him in the car and take him a mile up the road to the river Cuckmere for a glorious romp. After that you could nip across the road to Friston Forest where he'd have a wonderful time sniffing out all the rabbits. Perhaps not all in one day though! When you're all totally exhausted a refreshing jar in the 15th Century pub with a delightful garden should put you right! I'll check out some websites for you! Cherryx
