I'm not religious either but I believe there is a reason why things happen to us. I do believe in God and for various reasons that there is life after death. Not sure about being cursed though.

Daniel, what happened 5yrs ago made you make choices, we all have these times in our lives. You sound as though you made the right choice for you and well done. We all have crossroads and dont always make the right choices but i believe that your life is what you make it and mistakes and setbacks just make us stronger and wiser. Wendy.xxxx

I wouldn't call that cursed, more like blessed. Many of us go through our lives without ever getting that nudge which could lead us to fulfil our 'Destinies' and spend much of our time not knowing the joys of a truly fulfilling life. On the other hand I can look back at many choices I have made over the decades (No, Daniel, not centuries) which, if made differently, could have made a vast difference in my life. Not that the other alternatives need have been better or worse. My personal opinion, formed after 65 years of experience, is that none of us really have the wisdom necessary to make the right choice. Some are lucky in their choice and some are not. The important thing is the here and now because it is today's choices which will determine our future. And, of course, it is (not always but usually) possible to change your mind about a past decision if the result is not to our liking.

Yes are life is a blue print made before our birth. I believe that we are here for a reason. During our life time we have many lessons to learn that steers us on to our correct life path. If we do not learn these lessons they will often be presented again. I could give you a very long list of events in my life what changed my lifes path in one way or another. I personally believe in previous lifes & reincarnation. I am not religious or a nutty new age hippy. Get your self a few spiritual type reading books. It might just make sense to you! ps If I get to the other side 1st I will let u know whats going on!

If it was planned then obviously I'm thankful, but I still lament the price I pay. Like I said I feel I'm somewhat better now, but to get to my position I have had to fall behind the main race in life. This must so cryptic, but it would be too revealing otherwise. But then again, it's not an engima either.

Daniel I have led a charmed life , in my youth I had two options I chose the Army , Whilst in the Army I met her indoors and we have three great kids and three great grandchildren , in Ireland I parked over a bomb in a culvert it didn't go bang , but the next day it did killing people , took her indoors to a pub for a meal 5 minutes after we left big bang no pub people dead could go on but I won't I just feel that as the song go's love is life. I love life but do feel that my destiny is not entirely in my hands even though I am not a religious person

Well Daniel I believe that people have an inbuilt need/desire to find reason in things. This is why random violence seems senseless and why when something happens, like Princess Diana's death, people are willing to believe conspiracy theories. It seems so pointless for someone to die through a drunken driver and not wearing a seat belt. We feel there has to be MORE. Now, when I was younger, I used to see pattern in things and sometimes I still do, though I am much more doubting than I used to be. Experience has taught me that much more is possible than I thought previously. I also think there's an inbuilt belief many people have about 'what goes around comes around' and that you reap what you sow. To an extent I think that's true. I am not religious really, though I do occasionally attend Quaker Meeting which I find very supportive and uplifting, and I do try to lead a decent life. It's a trait in genealogists, and in most others, to want to KNOW but there are more questions than answers as Johnny Nash used to sing. You might find it interesting to read Viktor Frankl's book 'Man's search for meaning'. It is quite a slim paperback, not at all 'heavy', but rather harrowing as it deals with experiences in Nazi concentration camps. Ultimately I found it very rewarding. nell

As Roxanne said, it could be karma. Some people/religions believe wrongs in a previous life have to be amended in the present life, in order for a soul/spirit to reach a higher form of being/soul, in order to eventually achieve nirvanah/ a state when the soul has no need to return to earth to amend for past errors/sins. One could believe that - to quote many people when things go wrong - 'these things are sent to try us', and our reaction to them would have an effect on how soon we reach the 'perfect' state. This could also explain why some people have 'unlucky' lives. However, it could also be said of those who don't notice how 'unlucky'/ not nice they are, that they are a long way from the 'perfect' state - that their soul is immature and they will have many 'reincarnations' into this world for their soul to 'mature' before they succeed spiritually. maggie - no 'religous' beliefs whatsoever :o)

I truly believe that I chose to be born to DEAF parents as i had something to learn from it...... I definitely see more than words when people speak so maybe I have learnt the lesson I need too but I won't know until my journey is over!! I do try to treat people how I want to be treated. I struggle sometimes especially with my family when I think they should know/do better but then realise they aren't on the same path as me, whatever that may be!! I'm not perfect, i hope never to be perfect because then you stop experiencing and learning and ultimately living!! xx

Hello hun, hope you are ok. I don't think cursed is really the right word, but I certainly believe that everything happens for a positive reason - even if it doesn't become evident until much much later. I don't believe in regrets either - if it was right at the time, then it was right, full stop. Whatever happened to you had the positive effect of setting you on a course for an interesting and I am sure very successful career, and the added bonus of meeting all us wonderful lot too! Maz. XX

Roxanne Report 30 Apr 2006 22:05

I Have to say even though I believe In karma, I dont think people that are born with a disability are paying for their actions from a previous life, I think we have a choice and we decide what we want to learn from our next life.
