What do you rush into the nearest supermarket for when you get back to the UK? -Here goes 1. 'Branston' Pickle - chunky of course 2. Cheddar cheese - the real stuff 3. Something to make decent gravy with (from a tin!) 4. Custard 5. a few packs of cornish wafers (otherwise what would I do with the cheddar and branston?) 6. Suet (can't do a stew without the dumplings) 7. apple turnovers with real cream Just as well I don't go shopping too often in the UK ;o)))) Carole

When my Canadian rellies come over to England, all they want is Cadbury's Dairy Milk! Aparently you can buy it over there, but it doesn't taste the same. Sue xx

Karen When I lived in the States I craved Jaffa Cakes and proper crisps too so I had my parents ship some over! I also used to take gravy granules, HP sauce, all stuff we normally take for granted. But now I'm back in UK I miss stuff from the States. Just can't win can I :) joanne

Carole, try making your dumplings with butter instead... (I prefer unsalted). Just rub it into self raising flour (same ratio as the suet to the flour), until it looks like breadcrumbs, add a little cold water to make it a dough, roll into dumplings and pop them onto the top of your bubbling stew for 20 mins. Even better than using suet. Dee x PS Am going over to Canada in July - what can I take my expat cousins? Nothing too weighty...baggage allowance and all that x

Will try Dee BTW what about some real tea for your cousins - have just posted a large pack of 'Yorkshire tea' to my aunt in NY - weighed one kilo, costs £4 to buy and £10 to mail from the UK - can you believe it - but from one desperate expat to another what's money? C
