.........anyone use them (that has hair that is, lol). Just wondered how difficult it is to do yourself? I am now the proud owner of straight hair just had it re-styled, first time I have ever had straight hair in my life, lol ! Thing is I am panicking that when I wash it will I be able to do it myself. Do you have to use a lotion on your hair or anything or will it singe without? Thanks :0) Joan |

Used my sons once (yes...my sons!) my hair resembled Gizzard Puke for at least one month! Don't let that put you off though, most people use them satisfactorily. lol Tina |

Hi Joan, Would love to use these on my hair but I couldn't do it myself because my hair is too long. My daughter uses them all the time and I've noticed that her hair is becoming really dry and split, Kate x |

No it won't singe without a lotion as long as you do not take too long over it. However, John Frieda Frizzease Serum is excellent for smoother straighter hair, and helps to stop it threatening to curl again in humid weather. It costs a bit but you only use a bit at a time on wet hair. I don't use a hair dryer if I can help it, better to let it dry naturally, then straighten it, but if you do, make sure you have a paddle brush and don't have the heat too high. Make sure you give your hair time to relax and cool down before going on to the next stage. |

I agree with Kate My daughter does the same and uses them most days but as I dont see her daily the damage to her hair is more noticable |

Overdoing anything on your hair will ultimately damage it. Dying it too often could make it fall out!!! That's what happened to my friend. I don't use the straighteners every day, and I have long hair, but I always make sure I protect it as much as possible, with the right conditioner and serum, and I use a wide tooth comb, not a brush, to de-tangle it. |

I have GHD ones cost me £80 but they are the King of straighteners. Make sure you get ceramic ones, always use some sort of product ie serum (Asda do a really good one for about £2.00) or conditioning spray. Do not use them too often. Hairdresser had a lady who used them everyday and her hair snapped off. If they are for use with dry hair make sure that your hair is completlely dry or else it will damamge your hair. Have fun with your straight locks! |

Hi Pippa & Teresa !! Ok will look for the ceramic ones then, perhaps with a temperature control, so it won't do too much damage? The hairdresser straightens hers, & her hair was in lovely condition! I do like it straight, I look so different, like off one of those makeover programs, lol :0) Joan |

Isn't it lovely to have the straight hair that once we could only dream about? Gawd I remember ironing mine in desperation! I hated it when old aunts would say 'Hasn't she got lovely curls' grrrrrrrrr no I didn't!!! |

I use mine every day. The trick is to condition your hair well and I use GHD iron oil - about £14 a bottle but lasts me for months, and my hair is ok. Tracy x |

Always had straight hair myself but your question reminded me of a time during the sixties, when my soon to be SIL, who had curly hair, always used to get me to Iron it straight for her lol. Jen |

All the hair style producers do some kind of serum or other to use when straightening your hair. Just try em out and see which one suits and don't go mad on expense. I bought some GHD straighteners originally that cost near £100 and they ended up giving up on me just outside of warranty and then bought a set of Tresome straightners for £24.99 and they do the job just fine. I use brilliant brunette shine shock serum before I dry my hair and its excellent. They do it for other shades of hair too and I use Mark Hills Straightening serum after just to smooth it. All work well but seriously just have a go nothing to lose and most work reasonably well, just have to find the one that suits you! |

Daughters use ceramic hair straighteners, better than my aunty, who many years ago used to get my mum to iron her hair straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
