of course not, why should it be discouraged, it's the most natural thing in the world. Perhaps a little more discretion could be used sometimes to avoid embarrassment to others, but no, it shouldn't be stopped. As a bloke I do of course avert my gaze where possible lol |

I work in a place 'open to the public' and women breastfeed here in public because there is nowhere for them to feed in private! Most of them feed their babies in our restaurant, but do it so discreetly that no-one notices what they are doing. I have no problems with it, and so far, nobody else has either! Bev x |

The first time I saw this was on a train in Spain in 1963.........I was embarrassed........I still am not comfortable with it when my sons wife fed the grandchildren even though they say that there is no need to leave the room ...................the problem is mine ...not that of the lady feeding the child |

I have done it, and have the strongest contempt for those that complan, when you are feeding your child, you cant really see anything anyway, what are we supposed to do? stay in till the baby is weaned? this sort of small mindedness really gets my goat (cant you tell) it is the most natural thing in the world and the reason we have breasts, more women should be encouraged to do it |

I have no problem at all with women breastfeeding in public. It's a very natural act. I do however think they should be over the top exposing themselves. It can be done discretely as to save embarassment to anyone (I know most men don't know where to look!! and can feel uncomfortable). Joanne |

No problem with it - its the most natural thing in the world. Why should women have to go into a loo to do it - how would you like to have a meal in the loo? Stella |

Mother's milk is best: and it comes in the nicest shaped bottles! But seriously, why do people have hang-ups over this. A baby is entitled to be fed the proper product at the proper temperature, when it needs it, not an artificially contrived modification of food meant for herbivores. |

I wouldn't complain, but I would prefer that they were discreet about it. Some women, unfortunately, are rather exhibitionist about feeding in public, and cause embarrassment where it could so easily be avoided. Reg |

I have no problem with infants being breast fed in public, but I do feel that some mothers can be a bit too on show when feeding (practically topless). When my brother was a baby, he was breast fed and we found that one of the Boots chemist stores had a breast feeding room next to the resteraunt. (The baby changing room was next to the toilets.) Unfortunatly they have now removed the cafeetc to put an optitan - but it was a lovely idea. |

I would not complain, of course not! It is time for everyone to remember what breasts are for!! All mothers who breast feed do it discreetly, I'm sure. Deanna X |

As others have said, its the most natural thing in the world, and about 99% of feeding mothers do it descreetly anyhow. Most people who do complain (male or female) most likely wouldnt bat an eyelid if a woman was topless on the beach, and would not flinch at the page 3 model as the read the article on the same page. Or if there is a bosom being aired on the telly.+ And those who think its almost sexual to see a baby on the breast in public and complain for those morals only need their dirty minds washed out in the first place. I breastfed both of mine discreetly. I don't think there's any need to have to do a full frontal just to feed the baby, some women just like to upset people. Remember not all people are used to women flashing their boobs in public and get easily offended. To be honest I find the view of the female equivalent of 'builder's bum' with tons of thong and low slung jeans showing bum cleavage in full view more upsetting. Louise |
