Lots of birds in our garden -however earlier this week - visited an oldfashioned Hardware and Nursery - long barn type building with sliding doors on on of the 'long' sides. We entered by another door and were startled by this flash of black. Then noticed a large box of mealy worms on display with a notice £2 per scoop - however a pair of blackbirds were flying in and out through the sliding doors and helping themselves, also walking around the floor - not in the least bit aware of the customers. Ann Avian shoplifting! It reminds me of reading in, I think, the RSPB magazine about a pair of robins nesting in a garden centre shop, they had learned to fly past the infra red control to open the doors when they needed to get in to feed their brood. Not such bird brains Pat

Those doves are back this morning Harry,and i was waiting with my binoculars , they have a very thin black ring round the neck,and are feeding quite happily among my starlings and sparrows. I'm sure my robin is nesting in next doors garden among their tool corner,you know the sort of thing ,piles of pots from the greenhouse and that sort of thing,anyway ,i have told Joan [the neighbour] and she is now avoiding the area,and has warned her grandkids to stay away from the bottom of the garden too. Hopefully before long there will be a few more robins around the area.,bit worried about the wren though ,i havn't seen it for a while which is unusual.Fred..

Keep the replies a coming. Some lovely little scenes on here. The robin I mentioned building a nest by my living room window took three days off but was back again yesterday. Perhaps Fred,s wren might have similar interests elsewhere. Wonder if they perhaps have two nests and keep one as a stand-by. Happy days

Hi Harry, my neighbour has been out all day near us cutting his grass for hay, there have been 7 Black Kites following his tractor all day, plus 1 crow that has been agrivating them. Have to keep getting binnoculars out to have another look. Fantastic. Hilary (France)

Jean, Nice to see this thread resurrected. A red squirrel - where are you from? My robins are still about and unless I have two pair, one of them is building a new nest in some tall bushes. This nest and the one built by my window are both in places normally occupied by blackbirds but which were not used because there was no foliage at the appropriate time of the year. We now have a pair of greenfinches coming into feed ,i'm chuffed to bits 'cause i havn't seen any since coming to live here,some swallows are also flying around ,but i hav'nt seen any nests yet.fred.

Only just tuned in Harry. Good luck with the Robin nests. Friend was looking to cut down part of a large shrub today and found a nest with 4 little blue speckled eggs - not seen parents yet so don't know what they are. Needless to say tree left where it was. In work the babies are now coming in hordes. Have to fill up 8 containers every day - lots of baby blue, coal and great tits, greenfinches, sparrows and even had 2 bull finches today. Happy happy days One very contented lady. Dorothy
