Does anyone take Simvastatin for high cholesterol? If so, do you have side effects from it - like awful joint pains? Stella

Dad takes it and had to come off it for a while to see if that was what was causing the aches and pains - In dad's case it wasn't the tablets at all Joanne

Hi Stella Yes he is taking them again - the pain was due to a stroke he suffered a while ago and none use of his arm had caused the muscles to ache as the arm became heavier and heavier. You may have side effects and they can try you on other tablets as they did with my Dad, go back to the doctors and see what they say Joanne

Hi Maureen - I'm on 40 mg - I was OK when on 20 mg, but now wake up every night in pain and cannot stand for long, as my hip joints hurt - they say on the leaflet that it can cause painful joints. Will have to see the doc I think. Stella

My husband has been taking it since he had a stroke four years ago, he complains of aches and pains regularly but don't know if that's the tablets or his age. M.

Morfydd Re my post earlier - my dad's aches and pains were caused by his stroke 7 years prior - not using one side made his muscles heavy and tight and give him loads of pain. Got a physio working on him and he is so much better - they even got him writing his name for the first time in 7 years - how cool is that Joanne

Thats great Joanne. Physio can do wonders after a stroke - my late father-in-law made an almost complete recovery, managed to walk without a frame eventually.

Joanne, that's lovely to hear, good luck to him, I bet he's chuffed. My husband was left with memory impairment, thankfully only affects him when he is tired or stressed. M.

Morfydd Dad is the same - somedays he call's me Ann ( his sisters name) other days he calls my daughter my name and will say to me ' Where is our Joanne' god only knows who he think I'am when he thinks my daughter is me, but after losing Mum last June who was his carer he has taken to calling me by Mum's name which can be hard for me at times, I just answer him insytead of crrecting him when he does that. He gets no-one else muddled except me and I'm his only child! Once called toffee's 'Gum mouths' - he knew they went in his mouth and stuck to his gums so invented a new name for them!! If you don't laugh you cry - strokes are very cruel Joanne

Having seen some pretty nasty side effects from simvastatin (and read the leaflets, checked the web, consulted knowledgeable friends) I would definitely go back to the doctor. One side effect is, to quote the doctor, 'muscles feeling like you've run a marathon' Mercifully, my relative now has 'allergic to statins' plastered all over their records but it took the medics a little time to be brought to realise that statins were the cause.

I have been on Simvastatin for 6 months now and feel great with them. I know quite a few people who have been taking them for years and I have never heard them complain of side effects. Love and Peace Marianne.x

Joanne, my hubby is the same with words, after the stroke he got so many words wrong, we just stuck with those words and still use some of them now. God knows what other people think. He works full time again now, but job can be very stressful and so causes problems, he is forever asking me to remind him of things. M.

I take Fluvastatin,Enalapril Maleate, 2 lots of Atenalol,2 lots of Thyroxine,Doxazosin (sp) and Aspirin to thin my blood.I'm in constant pain and get really fed up at times, but there is always someone worse off than me so I thank my lucky stars for small mercies.

Like many others on here !
