Have to take my cat Tigger to vets this morning. She seems to have lost a lot of weight in past week, so have to get her checked out. She's quite elderly for a cat though, about 14, so not looking forward to it. Update:- Took Tigger back to vets yesterday, and it is as we feared, there is a tumour in her intestine, which cannot be operated on. So we have to face the inevitable, and have her put to sleep. Couldn't face doing it there anad then, had to bring her home, and tell family, and so that we can give her lots of cuddles over week end. Going back on Tuesday, but not looking forward to it at all. |

Might be overactive thyroid, they do seem to get that about this age. Our ole Ginger tom developed it at 14, but with daily medication he went on to nearly eighteen before his kidneys packed in ,but that was a good age so he had a active life till the end. Hope your cats diagnoses is good and it can be helped . Shirley |

If the weight loss is due to poor appetite it could be a problem with her teeth. Whatever the diagnosis I hope the outcome is good. |

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. Just back from vets, they've taken bloods, will ring me with results on Thursday, and have to go back on Friday. He examined her and can feel a lump in her tummy, but isn't sure whether it is a tumour or she's constipated, but said that given the history of sudden weight loss we should be prepared for the worse. Not looking forward to what I might hear in the next few days, or telling my daughter (Tigg is her cat) |

Get the cat checked out at the vets,as others have said it could be teeth etc.The age is nothing to do with it,we have a 23yr.old,shes a little on the thin side, but eats like a Bl**dy Horse, hope all goes well. Hal. |
