I was made redundant nearly 2 weeks ago (luckily I found another job the next day) but have still not received my p45 or p60 from former employer despite my keep contacting her and getting promises that they will be with me shortly. I don't need to pay tax on my normal hours but if I did overtime then I would. How do I get these missing forms back for goodness sake?

From what I remember when I did the wages, your new employer will be able to get them for you -

Thanks Sally, new boss very friendly and been in business for years, but even she was surprised I hadn't received them. Will have to wait and see what happens I guess.

P45 - this should be delivered with your redundancy pay and final wages! P60 - they won't supply one of these as they are only supplied once a year at the end of a tax year so you should have last years already!! Hope this makes sense but PM me if you need more info! x

It was about 10 years ago, but not unusual - it can take a time, and in te meantime I used an emergency code, which meant you paid more tax but did receive the refund when the P45 came through - you dont usually get your P60 until the end of the tax year, April 5th, again, as far as I remember - try to forget work these days.....

Some companies can't issue P45s until the automated payroll system has run the current cycle .......... I know ours don't arrive until the payslips do at the end of the month.

I don't know the size and style of your previous employer's organisation, but our firm runs a wages bureau and the woman in charge is worn ragged at the moment, processing all the year end forms. P60s aren't due to be filed until May 19th, so these may not yet have been completed for your previous firm. Do you have a notice of coding? I should have thought that your current employer could use that on a week1 basis until everything is sorted out as we are only just into the new year.

Get your new employer to give you a P46 to complete sweets as this will cover you.... it will mean you pay a slightly higher rate of tax but not as much as emergency tax!! xx

Thanks all, re the P60, have not had one at all for 2005/2006. Just had a text from old boss and she says I will have it by Tuesday. Hmmmmmm!

Woody's Report 26 May 2006 10:12

This year the revenue had a big push for all employers to file online. Returns due to be filed by 19th May but the system is in such a mess that they have extended their own deadline till 29th May. We finally managed to do ours last week, got the return filed on Wednesday night at 11pm and finally managed to get P60's printed off last Friday morning at 3.30am. These were the only times we were able to access the system. Rest of the time - and we were trying during working hours for the two weeks before then - we would get so far and then would get an error message saying Ticket Expired, whatever that means. For us it meant that it was impossible to get back on to the site for at least 4 hours each time. Therefore, if your last employer also used the online for P45's then it may not yet be done. I have P46's waiting to be filed, not even going to try till well into next week. The system is a complete mess - remember the Tax Credits Fiasco a couple of years ago? If you didn't have a P45 your new employer should have a P46 done anyway, for their own records and protection. If you earn less that £97 you won't pay tax or Nic but may qualify for pension credits if over the Lower Earnings Limit. If you end up paying tax it just goes through as Week 1 which if you have much the same wage each week is little different to cumulative. This year's (normal) Code is 503L unless there are allowances or benefits to be taxed. Christine - better get the wages done!

I used to do ours by hand and calculator, and have to read all the info when it came in for the new tax year.....needless to say it was a small company, but I did it for 18 years....

Crikey, glad I'm not a person who would be in charge of all this - it would be even more chaotic !! LOL

Woody's

Woody's Report 26 May 2006 10:18

Sally, I never had a problem when it was done by hand and a calculater. I can do the wages in 30 mins manually - takes best part of 2 hours by computer. Believe it's called PROGRESS!

Well I'm blowed....all this time I have been thinking that Wages personnel have it easy with computers....and the old way is best....just thinking though...what happens if the computers crash....are there those still out there that can do it (wages I mean) by hand and brainpower.....

Trish

Trish Report 26 May 2006 10:24
