Hi, this is a thought from number two daughter, when she was a small and very fussy person, she loved 'naked' fish fingers, grilled and then the coating taken off, she wondered if your old dog might like the same..! Barbara..xx

Morning everyone, Sorry, I could not get back to the thread yesterday. Sarah, I cannot give him egg because of his failing liver, he used to love it but not anymore he still likes his cheese. Karen, I made a light gravy and mixed it with his food last night and he just sniffed it. Lesley, He loves a bit of yogurt but not mixed with anything, but only when he feels like it. Jayne, With our other Maltese that also had liver problems we did follow a low protein diet eventually she just stopped eating. The vet tried force feeding which she could not hold it down. Scott will eat rabbit if it's made on the barbecue. He has never taken to dog food of any kind. Lynda, I do give him vitamin paste which looks, and to me tastes like marmite, he does not care much for it. I put multivitamins in his drinking water. Thank you all for your suggestions I shall keep a copy of this thread. I gave him instant porridge with honey for breakfast and he just sniffed at it, and I have a pot of homemade beef stew simmering on the stove for his dinner. Lindy ;-)))))

Dont know if you can buy it in the Algarve but what about Farleys rusks for breakfast all of my dgos have loved them but mixed with half milk and half water. When my old poodle had the same problems as Scott we were told to give him a low protein diet as this was much better for the kidneys and liver. Therefore chicken etc on its own is not suitable, but then again if they wont eat what do you do. What about rabbit/fish/spam etc mixed with veg/rice/fruit/gravy etc? Hope you find something he likes! Jayne

No my Sisters dog has a very Sensitive stomach and can't tolerate rich or human foods. She has complete food with a little bit of something mixed in - as I said it's about variety. Just pm me if you do want the Liver Cake recipe. Kaye x

My vet taught me trick that I was amazed to see work - mix whatever you want to feed him with a couple of spoofuls of natural yoghurt. No the low fat stuff, but the whole milk, full of everything kind. I even bought the organic kind for my fussy eater. She wolfed it all down in a second. I give them their meds in a tsp yoghurt now, and they love it. Good luck.

hi, sorry to hear about your best friend.. i've got a picky lhasa apso, have you tried soaking the biscuits in the gravy to soften them and adding fish or chicken paste for smell. i know your not supposed to give cat food, but you could add a small bit again for smell and taste.. i hope this is helpfull, i'm trained animal assistant and breed dogs.. kaz

Kaye, Your sister's dog must have a cast iron stomach..lol Scott is old and is a house doggy, sometimes he has little accidents. I would hate to think what would happen if I made a drastic change in his diet.... I think that homemade gravy is a good start and if that does not work I will get back to you for the liver cake recipe.. Thank You Lindy ;-)))

Barbara, No idea is silly! I think you mean purity baby food, personally I think they taste horrible and I don't think he will eat it. He is a ' homemade' food kind of dog, he was born on my lap so he thinks I am his Mommy and yes I do spoil him. Thanks for your idea! Lindy ;-)))

Now you would think I would have guessed that by the name wouldn't you! lol Give him things that are strong smelling - something he smell cooking perhaps like bacon? What about fish - tuna etc. My Sisters dog is a nightmare to feed and my Sister mixes all sorts in with her food (the dog that is) and has to vary it, but she used Pilchards, tomato sauce, gravy, tuna, corned beef...... My Mum has a recipe for doggy Liver Cake - my Sister's dog goes mad for it - mine can't have it because of Storms allergies, if you would like to try it let me know and I'll get hold of it for you. Elaine, I tried feeding him canned sausage which he gobbled down the first two meals, after that he would not look at them. He is off of fruit and never fancied banana. Lindy ;-))

Kaye, I live in Portugal, in the sticks, and I have not see doggy gravy for sale over here. Scott used to love eating eggs but because of his liver problem he has gone off of them. The only potato he likes is crisps. Lindy ;-))

Hubby is class two diabetic so I use canderell in the porridge. I have never liked the taste of honey but always have some in the cupboard for my boys, who eat it by the spoonful. Yuuk! Lindy ;-)))))))

You can buy special Doggy gravy now! lol How about egg? My German Shepherd is funny about some food and has a lot of food allergies, we had to take him off dog food for a while to get the allergies to settle down - during this time we fed him egg and potato and he loved it. Both are good and healthy and you can always add different things to the mix to keep him interested - I think 'interested' is the key, they soon get bored of the same old thing. Let us know how he gets on. Kaye x
