yes I know what you mean Jeanette. Speaking of role models, politicians aren't very good are they? lol

Would you go on B.B. if given the chance? No way would I want that sort of attention but no problem because THEY wouldn't want me. I do know someone who got through several of the selection rounds. His family were dreading the 'fame' that might come their way. Gwyn

When my daughter visited she brought me various magazines that she had bought at the Airport..... all magazines that are widely read and obviously popular. What was the content?? Mostly about people I have never heard of... only 'know' Jade Goody because of the mags..... are the lives of these 'celebs' so interesting? Who cares if they are having another baby or boob job or nose job or whatever..... ? Someone must or why else do these magazines sell? Personally I read through them just because it's something different for me to read... as I said I don't know who half of them are anyway! .................................................................. ................................................................ but......................... I wouldn't mind their money!!!!! Jacquie xxxx

Maybe there is some skill involved in Football, but does that warrant them being paid such a ridiculous amount of money - there is skill involved in many things - my Hubby is a skilled Precision Engineer who makes Aeroplane Parts, yet he's paid a absolute pitance in comparrison. You're absolutely right about kids seeing them as role models - my Step Son wants to be either a Famous Footballer or a Rock Star! Admittedly he's only 12, but it's still worrying. Kaye x

Grampa Jim, yes you're right. Reg, I don't see why we should be interested in their lives. They're just ordinary people, only in a different world.(well most of them). :-)

Kaye, well I agree they get paid too much. I believe Rio Ferdinand was paid £750,000 per week once. :-)

I don't like Big Brother now. There's been several series too many. Initially it was interesting and original. But now it has just been turned into a freak show. It's a shame really, some people being treated in a derisive way just for entertainment. And I can't believe people are so willing to humiliate themselves on national TV.

Jade Goody's cool:) She's a girl from a crap background whose made something good out of her life. I admire her. I like Big Brother and that doesn't make me a moron. Ordinary people are just as entertaining and worthwhile as people we recognise from the media - it's only like watching people on a bus or in a pub except that it's created to be watched. I do have a problem with the amount that footballers get paid but I feel the same about politicians, film and soap stars etc. I find it obscene.

I agree with Jeanette. The media have latched onto, and fuelled, an obsession with 'celebrities', no matter how obscure or untalented they are. I too stopped buying newspapers some years ago, only buy one on a Saturday which has a TV guide for the week (so I can look up all the shows I DON'T want to watch, lol!). I daresay the cult of celebrity will die a death at some point, probably to be replaced with something worse! However, if these people can make money out of their 'talents', I have no problem with that as long as they pay their taxes. I'll stay 'celebrity immune' - I wouldn't know Jade Goody if I found her in my porridge!

Lucia to earn £250,000 a year she wouldn't need to do many articles. I know someone (a non-celeb) who sold a story to the sun 10 years ago and got over £10,000. All she had to do was spill the beans (true or otherwise) on her ex and have her picture taken in basque and stockings. We asked her why she did it she said for £10k why not?
