When we had cats they use to catch a whole load of things as we live near to large fields these included rabbits, moles, birds, frogs, fish & grass snakes!!.... we got quite apt at saving these where possible usually using a plant pot (don't ask)! our downstair loo was a makeshift animal rescue centre complete with box of straw & water bottle!! The funny thing was they were both scared of our dwarf lopp eared rabbits & use to cower when we let them out! Miss them both now though unfortunatly one was knocked down by a car several years ago (after living 12yrs nxt to the main road!) & the other had to be put to sleep last year as had a brain tumour. |

How about this one Diana, TIGER-----by Paul Gallico Tiger, tiger burning bright, Blazing headlamps in the night Some immortal hand or brain Has taught me to keep out of rain. When the storm clouds shroud the stars, I take shelter under cars, When they go, the passing showers, I come forth to smell the flowers. With the tears from Heaven rent, Blossoms synthesize their scent. He who smiles this work to see Also smiles since He made me. Tiger, tiger burning bright Shining orbs that pierce the night, What immortal hand did make Me and also William Blake? Vivienne xx |

Talking of cats reminded me of this poem. Cats Sleep Anywhere Cats sleep anywhere, any table, any chair. Top of piano, window-ledge, in the middle, on the edge. Open draw, empty shoe, anybody's lap will do. Fitted in a cardboard box, in the cupboard with your frocks. Anywhere! They don't care! Cats sleep anywhere. Eleanor Farjeon (1881 - 1965) This is a verse my son learned at school and a little lad I looked after for 6 years, used to love this rhyme. Liz |

Has Cliquot got a collar with bells on Diana? I always bought extra bells for my cats' collars and never saw them with a bird, even that twitch the cats do while they are stalking, made the bells jingle. Sad to see young birds maimed or killed before they have a chance to become cat-wise! Liz |

My two cats have a habit of bringing in starlings. Sami brought one in the other morning just before I was going to work. He ran straight upstairs and into my sons bedroom and went under the bed. I'm not very good with birds and as I was getting late for work I had to leave both cat and bird. When I returned home there on the doormat was this poor little bird,Sami was looking pleased as punch and my sons room well feathers everywhere. Now I wont let them out before I go to unless my son or daughter are at home. Lindax |

I was in my neighbours house one day, when her cat brought in a beautiful bluey, green budgie, poor thing was too far gone to save. Someone obviously lost their pet, I looked out for a' Lost 'message in our local paper, but none was put in. So sad. Sunny R |

Confession by Paul Gallico I've been named Poosie, and I am spoiled Thouroughly, thouroughly spoiled, and I like it. And don't let anyone tell you different. I lie on the softest cushions, Under the downiest covers And love every moment. I get the cream off the top of the milk every day And special double thick on Sundays, And I lap it up. My owner is besotted. She hugs and kisses me And carries me around with her all day, And talks to me And I enjoy it. I'm spoiled rotten, and, friends, That's the life. Whatever I want, I cry for, Crab, lobster, caviar, fish roes, sardines, filet, whitemeat of chicken, You name it, She's got it, I get it. I don't want to work, or hunt. If ten snow white mice were to saunter past my nose, I wouldn't lift a paw. I'm greedy, graceless, shameless, lazy, And luxury loving. Everything that comes my way I take, And yell for more. I'm spoiled useless. I admit it. And I adore it. Vivienne xx |

It's brilliant Diana but I don't know if it is still in print. The copy I have is from 1973 but the library should be able to find a copy for you. The first chapter is about his life with cat's & his understanding of them & then there are poems written from a cat's perspective. The line I quoted about only wanting to play is from one of them. It will take me a while but I will type out one that I think is probably a good description of Clicquot. Vivienne xx |
