simon says there was a game we used to play but i can't remember what it was called!!!! it went like this-------- one person would stand in front of a group and say a letter of the alphabet, then you had to count how many of that letter were in your name, if you had one, you would take a step forward, if you had 2 you took 2 steps forward and so on, the first one to reach the person saying the alphabet was the winner, then that person started the game all over again. oh what fun!!! |

That sounds similar to the Statues game Joan............ Where one person stands out front with their back turned and the others creep up.........when the person turns around you all had to freeze. Jen |

Jen, i forgot about those! yep, we played leap frog and two balls, another was tucking you skirt in your knickers and tossing up the wall, also coming down the wall into a crab, i couldn't do that now!!!!!! i couldn't do cartwheels tho'!! i learnt to ride a 2 wheeler bike on my brothers racer bike, round and round the garden, had a lovely track around the garden! dad wasn't to pleased tho'!!! i didn't have a bike of my own at first, then one day my brother had gone out on his and i had a bit of a sulk on, my dad came home from work and asked 'what's up with you?' so i told him, so he said 'do you want a bike?' i said 'yes', and he took me up to the shop and bought me one!! i can still see it now---it was blue and had written on it PALM BEACH, i thought that was the make!!!!!!!! it was £25! and was paid for weekly! oops, giving my age away here!!! |

Well I can remember two dolls and a pink knitted teddy.......brother had a blue knitted one, in fact we have a photo of us with our teddies...........black & white of course lol! Never did have a pram, from choice rather than hardship........I was too much of a tomboy lol!! Always wanted to play with the boys because they had more fun and were more daring...........used to go logging with them for bonfire night.........as well as playing footie with them. If the street kids got a game organised, all the boys wanted me to play on their teams because they knew they would win pmsl now thinking about it........... Jen |

Doctors and nurses with the bigger girls from next door, in their shed, till our mums came out and caught us! Shock, Horror!! Well I still had my knickers on, and I was only about 7! I never got the hang of roller skates, had those metal ones with an adjustable middle where you had to undo the screw to change the length of them. Brother had a scooter which I borrowed, and went zooming off, round to the next street, where I went up a dropped kerb and came off, had a huge chunk out of my shin, still have the scar to this day. Used to play schools too, I was always the teacher cos I was the oldest and the only one who could read! Had a blackboard and easel, and chalk, what fun. Could be really bossy then, as my teacher was too. |

I remember North, South, East, West who touched the crows nest. Used to stand up at the lampost. Also Jacks with the little rubber ball. Five stones. What were the sticks we used to play with, like kebab sticks & you had to drop them on the floor & pull out as many as you could without moving the others. We also used to build our own trolleys out of pram wheels, have a wonderful photo of my brothers all lined up with other kids in their trolleys for a race. Used to have brilliant fun with those. Hilary. |
