Pam, I know there are lots of different types of breast cancer and treatments. There are also many different stages of the disease. I was going to PM you but there is nothing I would say that I don't feel I can say here. I was Dx with BC over four years ago. I went in to have a lumpectomy done and found out that the lump had doubled in size over a two week period and I ended up having a mastectomy. It's a whirlwind of a situation, there are so many hospital visits, possible chemo treatment and radiotherapy. Some - not all - chemo brings hair loss and that's just another trauma to deal with along with the nausea etc. I could offer so much advice but each person's situation is soooo different. As a firend, be there for her - which I am sure you would, the very fact that you have posted on here proves how much of a friend you are. If she has to have chemo, call her up ask her how she is feeling on a regular basis. So much I couold tell you but I am sure that instinctively you will do it. I had a very good friend who made note on her calendar when my chemo sessions were and she rang me the previous evening and after the chemo to see how I was. It's little things like that which help you get through it all. Good family and friends suppport. I strongly recommend having a look at the diff forums on breastcancercare(.)org(.)uk (the pink ribbon charity) too. Encourage your friend to be honest when she is asked how she is feeling too - people know then exactly what they need to know (those that really care). Feel free to PM me yourself if you want to chat because I could go on forever. I am at the finishing line now - I have had reconstruction, hair has grown back although I do tend to keep it short now and I can almost put the whole situation behind me. I saw my situation as getting on a roundabout and having to go round and through all the diff stages picking up support on the way and coming through it til the roundabout stopped and I could get off and look back at the journey and know I have got through it. Hope this helps and isn't too long winded. Take care and best wishes to your friend - there are far too many of us for sure. {{{{{{{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Lyn x |
