Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 12 Jul 2006 13:18

Vivienne, what happened was that the CT scan was requested by the oncologist (mum had breast cancer 5 years ago) who I think was worried that it might have been something to do with that, so he asked for a Thorax scan. It WILL be a quick appointment apparently - I bet it's on the day of the flippin' picnic - sod's law!!! Maz. XX

Linen Report 12 Jul 2006 13:03

Hi Maz, Well at least they have established something, but what were they thinking of not scanning the area where the problem is? I think I would jump up & down & tell them, as it is their fault they have to repeat, then they should push in the queue. Sending positive thoughts for things to move fast & for Mum to feel better soon. Vivienne xx

Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 12 Jul 2006 12:46

* UPDATE * Well, we have been to the hospital. The ENT doc put a camera down and confirmed that the left vocal chord is paralysed (or LVC palsy, to use her technical term lol). At the same time as she lost her voice, mum suffered terrible joint pains in her shoulder, elbow, wrist and hip. Doc thinks it may have been a viral infection that affected the nerve responsible for the chord too. Turns out the CT scan was just done of the chest and needs to be redone to cover head/neck and chest too - the length of the offending nerve. So we have to wait for appointment, then go back in a month for results. In the meantime they have referred her to speech therapy, who will give her exercises to strengthen the other chord as compensation. There will be a long wait for that appointment. Apparently it can fix itself, anytime up to about a year after, so you never know! Thanks for the support:-))) Maz. XX

thanks everyone for your good wishes! Liz - she is Dorothy too, but was always Dolly as a child and to the family, that's what she prefers, although a lot of friends she made later in life always call her Dorothy. Maz. XX

Hope your mum gets something done soon so she can talk to her friends again, bless her. I don't know what my mum would have done if it had happened to her - she talked even more than me, and would have been so depressed to be unable to chat. Her name was Dorothy but she was called Dolly by some of her friends. Best wishes to your mum, Liz

Hope it all goes well for her Maz... She'll want to keep in touch with her friends - I wonder if BT could advise on any phone she could use? I think I heard of a text-phone available for hard of hearing folk - maybe someone knows of this. Take care Christine xx
