Yes - it was the most terrifying thing that has ever happened to me. I was assaulted in the street, my employers had anonymous letters about me, I was verbally and physically threatened, complaints were constantly made to the Police about me, he used to stand in my garden and look through my windows, I was libelled, he complained to the Police that my partner had broken into his house and assaulted him - the list was endless. This went on for about two years. I had to move in the end, but it still continued after that for over a year. I reported everything to the Police but they were useless. They lost all the evidence, and said they could do nothing as there were no witnesses (not true in a lot of cases). When I was absolutely terrified because I had been assaulted in the street it took them eight weeks to come and take a statement and then they had to go after five minutes. All they could suggest was that we got CCTV! Worst of it is that he is still around and because of this I am unable to do any more community work or go to community events because if I see him I shake from head to foot. I am still terrified of him. Going to an event this weekend and he's at the back of my mind already...last time I saw him was at the Remembrance Day service. He spotted me and started to move towards me through the crowd, so I had to keep moving. Even worse is that about another ten people in the local area were affected by his behaviour and the Police took no action on their behalf either, arguing that there were no witnesses, which was rubbish! One of the other people affected had a nervous breakdown in the end - too scared to go out of the house after he doorstepped her - and I got perilously close to it. Worst experience of my life - without a doubt. Not even the slightest bit funny. Sheila |

Hi Mags... yes...hard evidence is needed.. Tell your friend to keep a diary and photos if possible... witnesses are helpful.. Log these incidents with the police... and if phone calls are taped, the police will listen to them as they did mine.... Good luck...Anne :))) |

Mags & Gem, it was really terrifying and was a long time ago but haunted me for years as I always wondered if I had done something more to get him charged that maybe the poor girl in Florida would still be alive. Was only interested at the time in getting rid of him and out of my life. Taught daughter to always keep a look over her shoulder and don't take chances by putting yourself in unsafe situations. Always, tell someone no matter how trivial you might think it is. Debs |

my sister in law noticed a chap from her college course following her home on a couple of occasions, which could have been a bit scary... except he then asked her out and they're now happily married.. so not really a stalker, just shy lol |

Not that I know of lol. I did have a dirty phone call once. I had been in the garden, tattie jeans and wellies on and could not understand why anyone would suggest the things he did. I thought it was somebody we knew having a joke, till he started talking filthy to me. That was after I told him i was wearing tartan knickers with lace round the knees lol. Marion |

I had one this year... videoed me (denied this under oath in court)and had me followed and kept ringing and threatening... So I got a phone tape recorder and waited... he admitted everything he had done on this tape and I took it to the police as he threatened my life..... (really wouldn't have stood a chance cos I would have flattened him) but... The police took it very seriously and he has now got a 12 month harrassment order against him...and done for purgery.... if he does anything he will be arrested and will get a prison sentence according to the courts... The law sometimes works in our favour!! Anne :))) |

Mags, yes I did have a stalker many years ago. It was a guy from the company I worked at. He used to follow me to the bus at night, get on (even thou his car was in company parking). Would get off the bus when I did and follow me home. Only thing is I caught on right away and got off the bus at the local mall and with quick manouvering ditched him in one of the stores and made it the extra blocks home without him following. He did this for several weeks off and on. Course I told OH what was going on and reported it to his boss. OH and boss both kept an eye but course took several more weeks as he knew he was being watched. OH started picking me up at work and one night stalker didn't know OH was there and started to follow me so OH pretended he was going to run him over with the car, mind just to scare him. Boss saw the whole thing and fired him the next day. To end the story he left Canada and moved to Florida, several months later we heard he was arrested for murdering a girl in a motel. That left a scar and affected me for a long time. Debs |

I unwittingly became a stalker about 25 years ago. Knew ex was seeing someone else, but he denied it vigorously. Followed him night after night until one night saw him with the 'other' woman ... the same woman he dumped to go out with me ... He actually did finish that relationship, and we sorted things out ... but I dumped him at the Alter in front of his family and friends a few years later. A woman scorned ... Elaine ;-) |

No, I knew him. I was just fed up of seeing him. Enough was enough and he had to stop. |
