Dad and I were laughing last night about a person we used to know who made up the most dreadful stories. Years later it's funny but everyone believed him at the time. |

Yes - but isn't it sad that something is so lacking in their life that they must live in a fantasy world ?? |

Yes someone was always at it. Then something terrible did happen. Think I believe them but it does cast doubt in your mind. Germaine x |

Yes on OH's side. He has told some whoppers in his time but had a very bad childhood. It must account for his strange/sad fantasy world. One example was he had obviously told his girlfriend that his mother had passed away and she actually sent a letter of sympathy to the family - when it was all fiction!! Anna x |

My brother's life (before he married) was a pure work of fiction....... he knew I knew he was lying but bless him he couldn't stop...... all he wanted was for someone to really love him for him and he found that in his lovely wife and kids! xx |

I think if you know someone is embroidering the truth and coming out with a tall story, you can accept it for what it is and smile but if you have given your sympathy and support, been very concerned for them and find out later it was a load of hogwash you feel you have been made a fool of. I would have liked to have pitied them, it was a shame that their life was so lacking that they had to invent stories but it made me angry; I will never trust them or their word again. Mags xx |

Only once thankfully but it was really bad. I was about 14/15 and met a lad through a friend of mine - he had told everyone that his Parents had been in a terrible accident and were both dead, it had apparently happened quite recently. This lad wasn't from our school and you don't think that someone would make up something so awful do you, so we took him at face value. I dated him a few times and he seemed really nice - even came around to my house and met my Mum, who said how sorry she was about his Parents etc. It must have a month or so later that my friend found out that he had lied - he'd made the whole thing up about the accident and his Parents! We never had anything more to do with him after that - it was a truely sick and twisted thing to do. Since then I've been a bit more cautious about what I believe and I've never met anyone else quite like it fortunately. Kaye x |

Exactly, Gwynne and from then on you always keep a little of yourself back from other people that need support; an even bigger shame. Mags xx |

I had a friend for a short time who told amazing lies, I think she felt she had to make her life more intresting or people would not like her - sad really but I could not have her as a friend as I would have never known when she was serious. Nasty Me! |
