My OH says contact them in the States. He reckons your best bet is to write or e-mail the UK office and cc it to the US and trading standards. I've certainly found that American customer service is far superior to the UK's

Hi there!!! I've got a mate who repairs pooters and actually refuses DELL ones............he says it stands for Don't Expect Long Life!!! But also for whoever asked about smoking near computers is that when there's a nicotine build up it goes sticky like tar or treacle now you wouldn't pour either of those on your pooter and still expect it to work???? I do hope the pooter prob gets solved as I know how annoying it is to be without it.........but if the person who has the extended warranty can prove they've paid for it then DELL has to honour it no questions. You could have a look in your High Street - when we had to send a fax, we used the one at the local newsagent! A lot of shops have photocopying and fax facilities, plus the 'office' shops - and perhaps the local library may have a fax machine too. Worth a try. Mags xx

hi Janet, I have told them I cant scan the bank statement as I don't have a scanner, I told her I couldn't fax it either as she reqested because I didn't have a fax machine. She just continues to not give me the address to send my bank statement to. She is the second person i have been onto about this neither will give me their address to send information to them. Betty

Betty, Have you told her you don't have a scanner, so can't scan and e-mail the statement? Ask them how they propose you forward the info they are requesting - if it has to be posted, you have to have somewhere to send it to. If they suggest having it scanned somewhere else, refuse on security grounds. Jay

We have a dozen Dell computers at work and I think three have suffered motherboard failure due to a particular component burning out. Also at least one hard disk failure. Maybe we've been unlucky, but our computer engineer recons that they should have done a recall on that model.

Hi Jay, Yes i know their isn't much on the website re various addresses for Dell. I have received 2 e-mails since starting this thread from Dell agin requesting I send them bank statements with payment for warranty info on it. Twice I have requested again she give me the address to sent the bank statement to her and again she refuses to do so. What can you do when they won't give you the correct information. Betty

Hi again Betty, They have to have a UK contact postal address to operate here - all I could get for my company was a PO box in Milton Keynes and that is where I wrote to.(Couldn't find an appropriate company & address at Companies House and nothing has come up there either with googling Dell.) I was advised by the lady at the council that I should expect to wait 7 working days for a reply - that is the accepted code apparently. I contacted the council service purely because I couldn't find a proper address, or a phone number, but I felt much better for ringing her, because she took down all the particulars and gave me a case number, so that I could contact them again if I needed to. There was in fact an official log that I had taken action, and somewhere I could go if I didn't get a response. You can get a proof of posting receipt at the post office, I believe. I would try the Dell products, rather than the finance dept. Good luck. Jay

Oh , I know Yogi LOL - I only have to turn the keyboard upside down and see what comes out! We've had this computer for three years and only had one other before that so guess I have been lucky. BB - try the address I've given you. Don't send originals and have it tracked by the Post Office. If the worse come to the worse - you could confirm the registered address with Companies House. If one of your local radio stations has a consumer programme, then contact them and let them sort it for you. They love 'taking on' the big computer companies.

Mags, if you opened up your machine I think you would be quite surprised by just how much nicotine there is in there. Many a true word spoken in jest. LOL JJH

Hi Mags, I don't have a Fax Machine to send it have ask two people who I have been in contact with at Dell to privide the full address for me to post it to them, they won't give me their address. If i send it to the address on the webisite it may be the wrong one, I think they have several offfices in the UK, they will say it got lost or something if I send it to the wrong one. Don't know why they wont give me their address. Betty

It hasn't bothered my computer, BB - it has that much smoke around it, it has to have niccotine patches when I go away! LOL Try faxing your complaint and the bank statement - must be cheaper than phoning. Mags xx

Betty, smoking is not good when near computers. The nicotine will pervade the inner workings just as it does the lungs. JJH

Betty, Have you posted your PC problem on here or Tips, as there are some very knowledgable folks who may be able to help you improve its performance as a short term fix? Don't bother with the call centre for now - they are obviously not solving your problem. In the meantime contact some official agency here in the UK and also write to Dell HQ - tell them what has happened, explain about your extended warrenty and demand an explanation of what they are going to do to sort it out. Hi Mags, Yes I do smoke, so does my husband and in the same room as the computer too, would that cause problems?? Betty

Mags

Mags Report 2 Aug 2006 16:22

Thanks Jay. There are times when I think mine's only held together with fag ash and niccotine! LOL....Ah! perhaps that's the problem - BB doesn't smoke! Really hope you get it sorted BB - and I would really have a go about the poor customer service you've had from them aside from the problem with the PC. Mags xx

Hi Everyone, Sorry I am so slow to reply due to this computer, and Yes Janet it is now my computer as well as the Printer which did packedup several weeks ago, still trying to get Dell to do something about it. Does everyone have problem talking to Indian people or is it just me that doesn't understand them?? Betty

Janet in Yorkshire Report 2 Aug 2006 16:11

Mags, I've had a Dell laptop for about 5 yrs with no probs - also have Dell PC system about 1yr old. Printer has packed up, but PC is fine - touch wood. Don't worry, they sell thousands - we only hear about the problems. (No consolation to Betty I know) Jay
