I have Dell computer which had a 1 year warranty, after this had run out I took out another 3 year extended warranty. I have had nothing but problems with my computer and printer, phoned them, e-mailed that and they say I don't have a warranty although I have the bank statement saying they took the money out my account last year. 50 Phone calls and 20 e-mails later to Dell I still have not got it resolved. Told them I would send a copy of my bank statement but they will not give me the address to send it to. Betty |

I bought my daughter a dell laptop second hand and the mother board and memory board have crashed. I have just had to buy her another one, not DELL i might add. My advice to you is go to C>A>B and see where you stand legally |

Hi Betty You have consumer rights and I know that they will have to honour your guarantees. If you are phoning an 0800 number it is free to you so ph again and make a nuisance of yourself. If they don't give you a satisfactory answer - go to C<A<B but also threaten them with the NATIONAL PRESS. It's surprising how quickly they will resolve your problem. I did that with a company and hey presto problem solved within 24hrs. Oh by the way do you have a copy of your extended guarantee. |

Hi Betty, I'm in the market for a new desktop and was thinking of Dell but having read about your treatment I don't think I'll bother. I can get one made locally for me with a 3 year warranty for the same price. JJH |

Hello, my son bought this Dell inspiron 6000 six months ago it has broken down twice 1st the mother board went an the bloomin thing had to go back to the factory after spending many many £s on phone calls to them, [ a clever trick ] secondly the battery went, again after many phone calls battery was replaced. It makes you think about aftersales breakdowns, are these things programmed to break down, at a predetermined time so we all have to phone in on premium rate calls.[ good ploy ] this is not the first time this theory has been aired. |

We must be lucky, I've got a Dell and so have my son and daughter. I've had mine just over three years and they've had their's about 4 years. None of us have ever had any trouble. Perhaps I shouldn't have said that!!!! lol Linda |

Hi Everyone, Sorry I am sooo Slow to reply to you all, thanks for all your message its taking me ages to send a message with this computer having problems. I like the Dell computer but the aftercare service is awful, I think the calls centres they have are in india, all the people are Indian and I just can't understand a word they say. Can't wait to see my next phone bill aaagggg. Betty |

See if your local council has a consumer service/rights help line. Mine does and they gave me very sound advice when I had a problem with my ISP and couldn't find a UK postal address or phone number. If necessary, they take the case to Trading Standards on your behalf. Ask them to look in company house - I think the Dell UK HQ is at Bracknell. Write to the customer services manager, including a log of all that has happened. I kept an 'incident diary' and noted all phone conversations, who with, and a brief outline of what was said. In my case, I did get a reply from customer services - an apology and a free months connection. Is this still the printer, Betty, or the computer as well now? Jay |

Mags, I've had a Dell laptop for about 5 yrs with no probs - also have Dell PC system about 1yr old. Printer has packed up, but PC is fine - touch wood. Don't worry, they sell thousands - we only hear about the problems. (No consolation to Betty I know) Jay |

Hi Everyone, Sorry I am so slow to reply due to this computer, and Yes Janet it is now my computer as well as the Printer which did packedup several weeks ago, still trying to get Dell to do something about it. Does everyone have problem talking to Indian people or is it just me that doesn't understand them?? Betty |

Thanks Jay. There are times when I think mine's only held together with fag ash and niccotine! LOL....Ah! perhaps that's the problem - BB doesn't smoke! Really hope you get it sorted BB - and I would really have a go about the poor customer service you've had from them aside from the problem with the PC. Mags xx |

Betty, Have you posted your PC problem on here or Tips, as there are some very knowledgable folks who may be able to help you improve its performance as a short term fix? Don't bother with the call centre for now - they are obviously not solving your problem. In the meantime contact some official agency here in the UK and also write to Dell HQ - tell them what has happened, explain about your extended warrenty and demand an explanation of what they are going to do to sort it out. Jay |

Betty, smoking is not good when near computers. The nicotine will pervade the inner workings just as it does the lungs. JJH |

It hasn't bothered my computer, BB - it has that much smoke around it, it has to have niccotine patches when I go away! LOL Try faxing your complaint and the bank statement - must be cheaper than phoning. Mags xx |
