It really makes me boil and I do have to agree that in most cases it seems to be the older generation. Having to push around a large double pushchair I always make a point of thanking people and it suprises me when others seem to have forgotton what they are. If I stop my trolley in a supermarket to let another shopper through they hardly ever say thank you. My favourite retort is 'My my your mother must be so proud of your manners!'. Dianna x |

Agree with you there OC. I find the pensioners the worst offenders at bad manners. Then they demand respect from younger people! Not all pensioners I hasten to add, are that bad, but there are one or two who are like that. |

I say in my very grandest voice (after theyve jumped me in the queue) 'Oh, please do go first, I can see you are in a tearing hurry' As for holding doors, I shout loudly 'Don't mention it, its a pleasure to wait on you' And I have to say, its rarely the young that do any of this, its the oldies, who ought to know better. I'm afraid in similar circumstances, I have been known to say to offenders 'Are you from .....?(a certain EEC country) One blushed immediately and retired to the back of the queue: another said 'No - Why?' My retort was that natives of that particular place were well-known for not liking queues. That also had the desired effect. Jay |

Roxanne I understand! I'm staggered by the number of times I hold a door open for someone and they just walk through, followed by several others, not even a 'thanks' or even an awareness that I am graciously not letting door slam on their ignorant noses! On the other hand, some people do say please, thank you, hold open doors and let you go infront of them in a queue if they can see you don't have many items or are in a hurry etc. nell |

Is it me or are people becoming oblivious to Manners!! I have just been shopping with my mother to Asda, A lady pushed her way to the front and her only comment was 'Im in a hurry' I was not amused,I told her to get back down the line and wait as everyone else has to,she then informed me she was staff!! My reply was that in that case she should most certainly be waiting her turn, as customers pay her wages! I wouldent have minded if she had been polite about it,such ignorance just makes me boil!! |
