I had a beauty but a sad story just 2 days after my dad dies we were burgled and they took that with eternity ring my husbands wedding ring a signet ring mum and dad bought me when I was little and a bangle that mum and dad had bought me 2 weeks before dad died and other sentimentel precious things Linda Long time ago now but it still hurts

Reading your posting Laura took me right back to when Mike proposed to me.......we were on our way up to Scotland, and were stuck on Shap Fell in snow in his mini, and Mum and Dad and Sis were in front of us. We stopped, and we were talking and he asked me........I jumped at it, he was lovely then, and still is......... engagement ring - very cheap, all he could afford, but it meant the world to me.......I was 17 and a half......

We chose it together...I looked and he made all the right noises lol ! sadly 13 years on, a few weeks ago, i realised the diamond had gone missing...gutted...you bet ! A trip to the jewellers concluded that my ring, with a new diamond, and fixings would cost more than £200. so im putting the ring away for Connie, she can have a cheaper coloured stone put in when shes grown up if she wishes, Then she will have her mums engagement ring personalised for herself. Hubby is going to buy me an eternity ring to sit on the same finger, it will work out cheaper than having my ring fixed and I diddnt want another engagement ring as nothing will replace my one. Hubby chose my first engagement ring, sadly that one is in jewellery box now with a few stones missing. He chose replacement last christmas, modern setting with diamond, lovely it is too :)) Heather x

Its a long story - I did chose a ring i really liked - ruby and diamonds. Took mum into town to show her the said ring and it had gone - the shop said someone had bought it a couple of days before. I was gutted. Anyway a few days later me and oh went on trip to meet his family in scotland. Did the whole tourist thing in Edinburgh - zoo, royal mile and the castle. After the tour of the castle oh went down on one knee in the castle square and proposed. He was the man who had bought the ring and mum (sly old fox) had already seen the ring, days before i had took her into town. Needless to say I said yes, after a few tears, and probably quite a few japanese tourists have us in their photos from that day lol So yes I chose the ring but he did it in a very surprising way.

Yes. When we decided to get engaged we went ring shopping. spent all day Saturday flitting from one jewellers to another ,even went on a long bus ride to another town cos I couldn't see one i liked We finally got my ring at 5pm . Good job cos we had an engagement party the next day. Have had my ring now for fifty years,but disaster happened about ten years ago when My friend at work noticed the diamond had gone,its a solitaire in a platinum setting , Gutted,but fortunately got it repaired under house insurance. Did feel it wasn't the same for quite some time but now am happy with it. It was just wear & tear that had made one of the claws holding the diamond wear down enough to let the stone loose. Ring cost £19.50 in 1956.worth now £985.had it valued when it was repaired so could even be more now.But its priceless to me

In my life time I have had 5 engagement rings one when I was 17yrs and the next when I was 19yrs then 26yrs these 2 from first husband and I have 2 engagement rings with 2nd husband how goods that lol Forgot I paid for exhusband's first ring for me with my money so really only 4

My engagemnt ring is a one off. Hubbie designed it and had it made, had to go to check on its progress 3 times during the making and then hid it inside a makeup bag that he wrapped up for me on Christmas day. Had problems getting a wedding ring to sit along side it as it is on a twist. Loved it then and still do. Lisa xx

First engagement OH bought was in 1968 when we were young,little victorian one, tiny, cost £15...Still have it.. Married someone else ! Divorced Back to first OH and presented me with a huge ring that he had designed,Fifteen years later , to the day, and I didn't know.. Did the whole on the knee thing,!!Handed over Woolies bag with 2/6 on ring....!

My boyfriend and I arranged to meet at lunchtime, outside my office in London, to go and buy my engagement ring. (This was about 36 years ago). I asked my boss for an extended lunch hour, and told ALL my colleagues where I was going. I stood outside the office building at the appointed time,and waited, and waited, and waited. All my workmates passed me on their way to lunch, and passed me again on their way back, still standing there! He didn't show up. He'd forgotton. I can still feel the heat of the embarrasment I felt when I had to go back into work and explain why I had no ring. I should have taken that episode as a warning sign.
