I just asked hubby as he is quite an expert on it. This is what he said:- It either means that they like you:)) or they are from a different culture. For instance, a Japanese who is used to living in Tokyo will stand closer because he is used to being where there isn't so much space as an America who is used to being in the wide open prairie. If it was a stranger, it would be intimidating, but if its a friend then they feel comfortable around you.

It can be seen as threatening. ...they've 'invaded' your space. Gwyn

My closeness tolerance zone is almost zilch with close friends.......but seriously, this is the way it goes........someone gets close, if you like them enough and you feel comfortable, this you allow.......if you do not, you back off, turn your shoulder towards the person, to ward them off, move forward, turn your head away - all the defensive postures to warn that you are not allowing this invasion into your space......body language works both ways.... the person is saying 'I feel comfortable enough with you to get closer,' and by you allowing this closeness you are saying 'I feel comfortable enough to let you into my space'.......as Christine says everyone has their own comfort zone.....you soon know if you don't want that person near you..... Next time you want to try it out, stand near to a stranger, and you will see their defensive body action saying 'I do not want you in my space'........and you will feel uncomfortable too.... I ask you......how did you feel when this person invaded your space?.....

I didn't mind at all:-D BB xx

If the last reply was for me BB, then I would say that the person was saying in body language 'I feel close to you so I want to get closer', and your body language is not giving off any of the defensive gestures one give to 'repel boarders' if you get my meaning.........automatic defensive mechanisms would be to put your arm across your body, ie folding arms. squaring up to the person and looking straight into their eyes with a frown (saying in body language BACK OFF). to step back and turn your shoulder towards that person, as if to walk away.......you see, all the time you are putting the parts of your body you would defend yourself with between yourself and the other person. If you are sitting, you will cross your legs or point your feet towards the person you are interested in, your shoulders will be turned in that direction too. If the person then crosses their legs opposed to yours, or points their body away from yours, this is gently saying I am not interested (sexually)........and now I am getting of this subject........please dont get me on to chemical attraction......
