Does anyone have any information on any good diets. I have recently been put on Steroide tablets for breathing problems and have gained about a stone in weight with them. I would like to loss this extra stone, can anyone suggest any good diets where you eat proper food and not those fruit flavoured drinks. I have to get to my bed now as its almost 4am in the UK but I will check the thread later, many thanks in advance. Betty

Betty, I gained weight when I was put on HRT and cannot lose it, altho despite being less active lately I have stayed the same weight for the last 2 years. I try and eat healthily but do like my chocolate and icecream. Will have a look at any good suggestions by others and try to lose some weight with you!

Hello Betty!! I too put weight on due to medication, but because i do a contact sport i have to be able to maintain my weight... I can very muchly (is that a word??lol) recomend the weight watchers diet i have been doing...If i loose 1/2lb this week it means i've lost 1 1/2 stone in 10 weeks..... I follow the weight watchers diet, i am allowed 18 points per day, for 6 days....Then after my weigh in Anything goes..! ( my rule not weight watchers, lol) On my weigh in day i eat whatever i want...Pizza, sweets cakes..etc.. What ever i feel i've craved...(after the weigh in of course!) Then start the diet again with 18 points the next day.... It is really working for me, like i said, i have lost 20 1/2 lbs in 10 weeks!!! I always use this diet when i need to loose the weight FAST, i have a competition in November and will easily make my target weight by then.... Good luck with your diet!! LOU XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Hi Betty. I can swear by Slimming World. You can eat stacks of food all day and still lose weight!!! It's ideal for me as I don't like eating a big meal in one go but tend to snack all day but as long as you snack on the right things depending on whether you're on a 'red' or 'green' day you can still lose weight. Good luck Sue

Hi Lou, Can you tell me with Weight Watchers do you have to go every week to get your weight checked! How much does it cost to join and how much per week thereafter. Also you say its a point system, are you hungry all the time, do you get enough to eat per day on the point system?? Sorry I have so many questions!! I have an underactive Thyroide so my metobolic rate is very slow, thats the main problem with me going on a diet. Betty.

Hi Sue, I was on Slimming World a few years ago, stuck to it but didn't lose weight, turned out this was due to my thyroide being underactive. Betty

We had a thread sometime ago about underactive thyroid and weight problems. If I can find it I will nudge it up for you.

oh, SNAP!!!! My thyroid is under too, i have graves disease!!!!! Ok, with the WW diet there is usually a 'regester free' every few weeks, so wait for that..A weigh in costs £4.95 per week and you still have to pay if you dont go! You get 2 weeks 'holiday' every 6 months, where you dont have to pay or go! I am never hungry.... This is my food list (from my tracker sheet for friday!!!) Breakfast.................... Points 4x marmite toast on WW bread..............2 1/2 Cuppa...................................................0 (i never call tea any points and i use skimmed milk) Lunch............ WW chese and colslaw sandwitch........3 Quorn ham and pickle sandwitch...........2 1/2 Peach.................................................1 Dinner....... WW vegi chilli + rice...............................3 1/2 Frozen mixed veg (as much as i want.......1/2 corn on the cob.......................................1 Snacks................ snacka jacks....(any sort)..........................2 mushrooms and baby tomatoes.................0 carrot sticks.............................................0 ww yoghurt..............................................1 Total points................................................18 points!!!!! If i go over one day, for what ever reason, i pay the points back the next day!! It's like a little mini bank of points!!! LOU XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Sorry - have looked for the old thread but cannot see it. Was surprised to see how common the illness is - I´ve had it for 30 years and have battled constantly with weight problems. There was a good book recommended on the thread entitled The Thyroid Diet by Mary J Shomon. I bought a copy from Amazon but I also saw it in Smiths and Tescos when I was in UK recently. It makes interesting reading and has some useful pointers.

Oh Lou, I know my downfall after reading your last post on what you have to eat today. Please don't laugh, I am sat at the computer just now and had a cake, two milky ways, and an Ice cream cornet. I just can't stop eating with the steroides, they somehow make you want to eat loads. Betty

Betty - how could you own up to that lot !! I think the only thing that will help is a padlock on fridge, freezer and all food cupboards - and the keys made available to you at meal times!!!

Hi Caroline, Whats the GI diet then, or shouldn't I ask?? Betty

Toothfairy Report 14 Aug 2006 09:34

Well, Bonny Tinkerbell, the WW diet really does work!!!....I dont think the GI diet is healthy is it???? My big sis has lost over 3 stone with WW and i have Lost just short of One and a half stone....so it really does work!!! Different diets work for different people, WW is perfect for me because i love junk food, and sweets and stuff and i can still have them.... It's very hard to loose weight when you have an underactive thyroid as the will power and 'get up and go' have long ago got up and gone.....! Ah, also Betty, have a walk around the block or across the field, daily, or add in an excercise you enjoy, each excercise you do you add more points....If i go jogging i get 5 extra points that day..I dont use them (but you could if you wanted) I just save mine as it helps me loose the weight and keep tonned.. LOU XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX lol, Betty - just call it your treat day today!!!! xxx

Can anyone suggest what i can do. I want to loose about 7/8 Ib I can't seem to shift it. I can't go to weight watchers or slimming world because I they only accept people who want to loose over 10Ib. I've tried callorie counting but I always seem hungry doing this. I'm not even sure how many callories I am allowed. Can anyone advise me. Thanks Jane

Hi Elaine, I own up to all that this morning because there is no point telling lies, its because of the steroides, if you every get them prescribed for you then you will know what I mean, you just want to eat andeat and eat anything and everything. Betty

Hi Lou, I can't do all these things, about walking etc. due to my breathing problems, Asthma and COPD, I can't walk far without being out of breath. This also cause weight gain, not being able to walk around. Betty
