hi folks, its been a great year for the garden up here in scotland, the wifes hanging baskets are more beutifull this year, really full and hanging over, a lovelly site indeed, my favourite and the wifes too is my wonderfull water feature, i got a new one a few years ago(lucky me i hear you say) and it has been working a treat all summer, my neighbour, a lovelly girl, says its the best she has seen. how is your garden been this summer? |

Dried up and a struggle to keep going. A long cold spring when nothing germinated promptly followed by a hot dry summer, then the soggy cool conditions we have at present. Not ideal. Hemel Hempstead, Herts. |

It's been lovely this year, despite dry weather. Everything flowered, the philadelphus was glorious! Runner beans a bit disappointing even though they went in late - very few 'good' ones. Blackberries going mad, tree bending with cooking apples and have a good crop of damsons. |

As an aside, we've put a diverter on the downpipe from the gutter and installed a 200 litre butt, plus we recycle all our washing up water. Thats just about kept things going, and we have the best display of annuals in the street - mostly marigolds! |

Got rid of all grass in the back, and replaced with block paviours. Large shed built, Gazebo built ( 6 sided ) Large fish pond, with Koi Carp in, and my latest, a bird aviary with budgies and finches. All this leads to a much easier way to enjoy your garden, without all the hassle of cutting grass etc. Baz |

it must have been hard for you lot down in the south east with the hose ban, my wife tried to have a hose ban, but i would have none of it, she always grabs the hosepipe when i am playing with it, even my lovely nieghbour wants to play with it and thatswhen the wife gets angry and trys to ban me useing it. |

Well I don't know what I've been doing wrong the hanging baskets have wilted even though I watered them every day - now I've given up, the grass is getting a bit greener and the flowers in the beds are ....ok! just... and the weeds are popping up all over the place all in all not a successful year Norah |

Dreadful! Our resident family of ground hogs managed to negociate the wire fence and ate the half grown veggies. Stronger fence and removed the ground hogs. Growing nicely then had a storn with golf ball sized hail that almost finished everything off, huge holes in the cabbages and every apple looks as though you hit it with a tennis raquet. Apart from that the grass has forgotton to stop growing, Lucky to have a greenhouse so the tomatoes were fine. |

Hi Ben, Considering the intense swealtering heat we have experienced recently, I'd say my garden is just about holding up. The Budlia was beautiful this year and attracted tons of butterflies. I have had to cut it back now that the flowers have gone, as it was taking over the whole of the patio. The Passion flower has excelled itself too, it must be all of 30 feet long now along the trellis. I planted a cherry tree last year which is doing very well after a spot of black fly was eliminated.............no blossoms yet though, perhaps next year? A couple of bushes, didn't like the sun and heat at all and began to turn brown and go all papery.............I think the recent rain is helping them recover though. My pansies were glorious as ever...........they seem to survive for much of the year round. Jen |
