Went shopping yesterday for a booster seat for my grandson, for my car and daughter's car. They had blue or pink removable cloth seats, told James we want two blue, look down the pile of seats (thinking HE won't want pink) . I told him I was glad there were 2 blue ones left, to which he replied 'Oh yes Nanny, pink doesn't go with your car, or Mummy's'. Sunny R

keep meaning to measure Jamie - don't think he is quite tall enough grrrrrrrr I wonder how many people will actually comply?? Judging by the amount of people who don't even belt their kids in now - I get so mad seeing them standing up in the back of cars. do you know when it comes in please?! Jamie would be horrified at the thought of a pink seat! your grandson sounds lovely! Maz. XX

My five yr old is extremely tall for his age so I used to put in the front with me - saves the fighting/distractions from the back with his 2yr old sister. Now I have to put him on a booster in the back squashed between his sisters, both in car seats. There simply isn't enough room! What this law also doesn't take into account is how many accidents are caused by stressed mothers trying to keep the peace in the back of the car whilst driving.

glad I dont have that problem. Bad enough with my mum and seat belts. I sat behind her all last week in my brothers people carrier and she kept complaining that the set belt went tight and was strangling her. Most of the time she undone it and just held onto it. When she uses a taxi at home which is nearly everytime she goes out she never outs one on cos she just has so much trouble with them. My dad was a driver and she keeps saying that she never had to wear one when she went anywhere with him. The law is the law mum.....

Im confused by this new law. We dont have a car but we use taxis occasionally - do the taxi firms have to provide booster seats or do i????

Many N's - I think you will find that if you are carrying two children in the back of a car, then a third child can still sit in the front of the car, providing he/she is is using a legal type of seat/retraint.

in comes into force on 18th September for children under 135cm the 3 exceptions are - in a taxi if a child restaint is not available - short distance in unexpected necessity if child restraint not available - where in the back if 2 child seats don't permit a third to be fitted http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/childcarseats/pdf/law-leaflet.pdf#search=%22law%20child%20booster%22

according to newspaper the date is 18th SEPT, height 4ft 5in or 135 cm (i think) or 12 yrs old whichever comes soonest. Booster seats won't be needed for taxi's or emergency journeys where booster seat not available. Have twin step grandkids aged 8, the boy exceeds the height just, and the girl needs to grow another 5cm.

I've always made sure my seven year old son sits in his booster seat when he is in our car but his friends always make fun of him for being in a baby seat which is irritating. Last time we took him out with his friends there was a fight as to who would sit in it once they discovered they get a better view out of the windows! lx

We have a long wheel base landrover and the seats are sideways facing. Each child has a lap belt but I think it would be dangerous to use a booster seat. The trouble is even the police are not sure how we stand on this. They agree it would not be safe to use a booster seat in such a situation but no-one seems to know how we stand legally. Have looked at the web sites suggested but they do not seem to have thought about this problem either. Any suggestions? Sandra

Gloryer Gloryer, Also felt like I was being strangled in car. If you can get hold of a Bet***w**e catalogue, they have brilliant plastic clip that fits to the seatbelt that holds it away from the neck. Cost £1.99 for two. Linda

The seat I bought has a raised bit at the back on either side for the seat belt to go under, rather like an armrest Sunny R
