Yep, they are sending the 'pack' tomorrows post. I phoned them at 4.57pm ... so they couldn't get pack in tonights post ! 2 part exam. 1st = 8 questions which you MUST get all 8 correct or you fail 2nd = 32 questions. You need to answer 22 /32 to pass. The invoice will be in with the 'pack' (which I expect to arrive on Friday) and so on Friday night, I will take them the invoice to pay ! and then I can book a place immediately. The exams are every 2nd Thursday, and the girl I spoke to on the phone coudn't remember if there is one this Thursday or not, but she thinks so - so could be 2 weeks on Thursday for the exam :-))) I'm so excited - who sang that ? Diana Ross ?? Elaine ;-) I didn't ASK where the exam would be ..... !! I'll find out when the pack arrives ! !

The training provider should send you the book before the course because you do need to do quite a bit of 'swotting'. When you book the course they usually send it to you straight away. Usually there are two exam papers and depending on the examining board you either have to get a percentage correct or the same plus the first ten (I think) questions correct otherwise it is an automatic fail.

You do now need to be CRB checked to hold a personal alcohol licence - which you will definitely need if you are managing a bar. The whole process can take a while. Basically the licensing laws changed a while back so that it is no longer merely the premises that need to be licenced. Anyone who is a designated premises supervisor has to take the exams and then apply for the CRB check and then licence from their local authority. The exams are quite in depth and cover all aspects of licensing law as well as asking the candidate to show a knowledge of such things as alcohol content and how alcohol affects the body.

Some courses are 1 day and others are 2. You pay for the course then apply to the Council for your license with a current CRB check and then pay them for your license which I think is about £30. The course is around £120 but it may depend on the area.

About £150 most ... but they are gonna pay it for me ! .. as it benefits them anyway ! I'm already CRB checked ... but that will need renewing in January :-) Elaine ;-)

Good Luck with getting your personal license if you haven't already got it. If you haven't you may need to get on the course as a matter of urgency - they are very well subscribed at the moment - also there is a huge back log with CRB checks.
