I came home from school, I was 16. My mum was watching the news and she told me, she saw the whole thing live and I had no idea until I got home. I was horrified. I couldn't believe one human being could do such evil to another, I still can't. Just watching footage or hearing the stories, I find it very hard not to cry.

I was at work when my sister phoned to warn me not to let the children I nanny to watch TV(I don't unless I am with them). We turned on the TV & within a few minutes the second plane hit.I was disbelieving & so sad. I knew some people who were supposed to be in Windows on the World resturant for breakfast. They had all contracted a tummy bug & cancelled(I don't think anybody escaped from there) I was equally stunned by the July 7th train/bus bombings especially when it was so close.

I was oblivious - My best friend rang me screaming 'That's where she Works' - her sister worked in one of the towers. Thank God she had a dental appointment and had not gone to work but the could not contact her for 24 hours beacause the phone lines were jammed or down. It was a terrible day in history.

One of the nurses came and told me about the disaster, sat and watched the scenes on tv., my poor Dad had Dementia and was unaware of why we were all upset. That was a time when I was glad he didn't know what was happening, everyone was so shocked. Mau xx

I was watching tele but not paying attention as i was reading a mag too, i'd never heard of the 'twin towers'...My hubby came in and said, ''OMG! The twin towers, there's been an accident.''.He went on to explain what they were and we thought a plane had crashed into them..I commented on 'surely they shouldnt let planes fly so close,' and pointed at another plane that was flying close..To our shock the other plane flew into the other tower...I was gob smacked.. Hubby explained it must be a terrorist attack and we sat, in silence, with tears streaming down our faces...I didnt fully understand how huge the towers were and how many people were in there, but seeing my 6ft5 hubby cry like that, i knew it was horrific... LOU XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Thoughts and prayers to all who were affected...xx

I will never forget, I was at home and got a call from my OH to turn on the tv and watch the news. He just said 'Have you seen what's happening in America...?' It was the one morning I had not turned the tv on, when I did I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The first plane had just struck and then the second one happened. I could not believe it then and still today I cannot accept it.....and yes there was a big black cloud with the Devil in it, I saw that too Christine...an image that will never leave me. I cried as I watched those poor people jumping to their deaths, what hope did any of them have of surviving such a terrible act. My blood runs cold whenever I think of that day, not only for those in the Twin Towers, but also for those passengers on the planes, who knew they were going to die.....pure evil at it's worst. I was at work, i worked for a large call centre and all of a sudden the phone lines stopped ringing. Our whole office block was huddled in the canteen around one small tv. Everyone was in shock as many of the senior staff had family and friends in the towers, it was horrific. I remember calling my sister in law and asking where her husband was he was due to fly out of usa that morning, he had taken off 30minutes before the first plane hit. My thoughts are with the families who suffered such tragic losses. Victoria

I took the day off as I was waiting for ntl to install the internet. Sat down to watch the news and watched in disbelief. Phoned work and my parents, everyone was absolutely stunned. Just sat there all day watching the news over and over. Recent programmes, especially the dramatisation last week with the personal accounts of that day really shocked me. My thoughts are with those who lost a loved one. God bless the emergency services also.

I was at work on a course in the Chamber of Commerce, we were just having our break outside, when I man going inside said have your heard about the World trade Centre we all thought he was going to tell a joke, until he told us what it was, we rushed inside and put the radio on and just sat there. When I got home, my OH was sitting in front of the TV and we both sat and cried seeing the people jumping out of the Towers. For days and weeks in was like a bad dream, you cannot imagine what it must of been like, the horror of being inside and the horror of being on the street and witnessing what happened. We should never forget it.

I thought it was awful at the time, but having watched a programme last week where they had survivors telling their stories and reconstruction of how other people died, it made me think about not just how many people had died, but all the different ways they died, throwing themselves out of the towers, on the plane or I think even worse, those poor people on the floors above the fire who were trying to get out and not realising they had no chance at all. Of course since then there are stories of people contracting cancer from the after affects of all the toxic fumes etc so it all still goes on.

My OH had been rushed to hospital that day & when he was wheeled back from x ray he saw a tv screen & told me a plane had crashed into a building in Chicago. Didn't think much more until I heard it was the WTC. My cousin works in a building right next door - his window overlooks it. This day changed his life & view on things forever!

Hi Deb My friend phoned me from her office - I couldn't understand what she was saying - I kept asking 'you mean a helicopter' as I know there is a service from JFK to Manhattan. When I turned the TV on they were showing the 2nd plane crashing and I was just stunned. I remember Jamie screaming and screaming cos I wouldn't let him watch CBBC or his tapes. Our TV was tuned to Sky News constantly for days afterwards, waiting in vain for survivors to be rescued. Maz. XX

We got a message at work and went to look at the tv. We knew our colleagues were in the towers - we had staff in both towers, over several floors. All we could do was watch. Initially we thought we had lost over 1000 staff, but day by day more were found alive - some were injured, but they were alive. In total we lost 295 colleagues. We will never forget that day. AL
