Gillie you can get help to fill your form in go to the local office and request support, they are very helpful, you can request they make a visit if you’re unable to get there. The who benefit system is being assessed, due to the changes, People are being assessed, there is some that are able to contribute now that could not before, i.e. computers some people are able to work from home on their computers, and as technology changes this is helping people to be more independent and gives them a sense of involvement, I know lots of peeps that have come off benefits DLA/SDLA/Incapacity Benefits the lot, one guy that was on SDLA he was supported to do a computer course by a job coach and now works from home for a very large organisation and most probably earns more than me, So times are changing and as much as we don’t like change its coming and we need to change with it, there is some cases where peeps are unable to work we know, but there’s a lot that can but just need the correct coaching and support to achieve this. After a couple of hours of retail therapy at Matalan with my sister and niece I came home to letters on the doormat, they were letter about my Incapacity Benefit, the Benefit is going to carry on until 2010!! I may need to have a medical then but probably not. I am so so pleased, that means I no longer have to panic about whether I will be forced to return to work, I have been in such a state because I know I couldn't cope with a days work and run a house with teenagers to boot, the stress and worry of it all has made my FM much worse. If anyone else claiming Incapacity I hope you get the result you hope for. Gillie XX

Have to do mine soon, have already rung them and said I need more time, I just hate those forms. I also told her I would be a pensioner in July, but still have to do the form! I think Fm should be more widely recognised as a really debilitating illness, no one chooses to have it and all the form filling and hassle getting help, just increases the stress so makes the illness even worse. Will grit my teeth and do it tomorrow, have to have it back by 28th now. Liz

Hi Liz, It's all such a worry isn't it, I found filling it in with my OH and the bits I didn't know how to answer I did with my GP much more helpful than plodding on alone doing it, because I live everyday with the pain and stiffness of FM and not realising how much worse I've got in the past year I had hubby to tell me what I can and can't do, or what it is I ask him to do for me rather than me trying to think what I ask him help for, it's such a better way of filling it all out, ask other members of your family what you've been asking them to do for you, you will get a better idea of your own abilities.I hope you manage to fill yous out ok Liz, Good Luck Hun. Dawn are you still looking in on this thread? what part of your form are you still having trouble with? I'll do my best to help you. Gillie XX

Hi Sue, It's been a long time since I made a first time claim, I'm not sure what forms you need to make a claim so I think the best thing you can do is to make an appointment at Citizens Advise Bureau (CAB) they will have forms there or they will tell you where to go to get the forms so you can make the claims your're entitled to. Good Luck. Gillie XX

To claim you have to ring a contact centre and they take certai info over the phone and send you out a statement to check and sign. Ring your local Jobcentre to get the right number. They don't send you forms anymore.

Hi Purple Poinsettia Whatever happens with the Incapacity Benefit, make sure you get the forms for Attendance Allowance so that you can switch on to it as soon as you reach pension age. Monica

Thanks for all advice, my o.h. does beggar all for me really, have to just manage. I even have to drive at night if we are out after dark as he can't see well with lights coming towards him, and he is supposed to be my toyboy! 7 years younger than me. He always forgets to put the wheelie bin out so I usually do that and loads more besides! Just struggle on and do what I can when I can, if not, I leave it! I think I received the form end of Jan so within 6 months, but I rang and said could I have longer to do it, and said I would be 60 in July and they still said fill it in, get it to us by end of Feb. Will ask about attendance allowance and check whether they need the form. Thanks again, Liz
