Funny isn't it, how one person can think the quality is poor, and yet another think it's good - it must be a matter of individual taste I think. Their jams and marmalades are second to none in my opinion, full of fruit and not too sweet - I could take a spoon to a jar of the Peach and Passionfruit one (and often do!). Not keen on their tinned soups, but I'm not keen on anyone's tinned soups. Their sardines in olive oil are delicious and half the price of other supermarkets. I don't buy their frozen veg, cos the quality of those DOES disappoint me and I'm not into ready meals from the freezer, so have never tried them. Their washing powder is rubbish and I wouldn't want it as a gift, but things like soap and toothpaste and shampoo are fine. Never occurred to me to be embarrassed shopping there! I see lots of local Chefs and Hotel owners shopping there too. OC |

I shop at Netto AND Lidl AND Aldi, just love their bargains!! My 10 year old son often has friends round on a Saturday and absolutely hates it if I have shopped at any of the above. Doesn't seem to bother his friends though - they are willing to tuck into the food all day!! The number of times my kids have dived down into the back of the car because they have seen their friends their and are so embarrassed. I ask them what they think their friends are doing their, but it doesn't make any difference!! Mind you, I was probably like that at their age, it's only when you spend your own money that you lose your snobbery!! Best wishes Carol |

Yes, I shop at Lidl. Especially Christmas. They have fantastic (and cheap) Stollen, Leibkooken, sweets, chocolate, nuts, beer, spirits etc... I also buy from Netto as they do really good stuff as well. Forgot to add... their Panatonne is the best and cheapest around. My teenage children love it sliced and spread with butter. Oh, getting hungry now!!! |

When I lived in Germany, years ago, I used to shop in Aldi but there isn't either shop here (in Harrogate) more's the pity!!!! Every time we go out to another town/city and we drive past an Aldi or Lidl I'm always shouting STOP THE CAR. They have some fantastic things in those shops and I wish we had one local to us! |

I HAVE BEEN TOLD, THAT ALDI, IS OWNED BY THE BROTHER OF THE GUY WHO OWNS LIDL, HE SET UP IN OPPOSITION. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE OR NOT, BUT IT WOULD EXPLAIN A FEW THINGS. YES, OUR LOCAL LIDL, HAVE CLEARANCE DAYS, ALL THE LINES THEY CANNOT CLEAR FOR CAR BOOT / JUMBLE SALE PRICES !!! USUALLY ON A SUNDAY. LIKE YOU SAY, TRY IT AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T BUY IT AGAIN !!! PIPS XX |

Nanna-Moo Yes, my Lidl used to be a bit messy, but there has been a marked improvement lately and it is constant, not just a quick tidy up. They recently (and I missed it! BOO HOO) offered a trolley full of goods for £10. They do this twice a year apparently, but don't advertise it. It is, someone told me, to clear the store so that they can do a 'deep clean'. OC |

HI PIPS, I HAVE SHOPPED IN LYDL BUT PREFER ALDI TO BE HONEST. IT SEEMS MORE ORGANISED, WHEREAS LYDL WAS A BIT MESSED UP. DON'T KNOW IF ALL THE STORES ARE LIKE IT BUT WHERE I WENT WAS SO BAD IT PUT ME OFF! I DON'T MIND SAVING A BIT ON SHOPPING EITHER....IS GOOD FOOD AT GOOD PRICES IF YOU WATCH WHAT YOU BUY.... NANNA-MOO ;-)) |

Yes, I love my Lidls! Their dairy produce and bacon are excellent. Sugar is sugar wherever you buy it. Their chocolate is lovely (and I am very fussy about chocolate). Some stuff I don't like - so I don't buy it! Their non food offers are excellent and I have bought loads of stuff - stationery is always cheap and their electrical goods are fine. I was cross a few weeks ago - bought a new toilet seat in B and Q, cost 18.99. Went into Lidls, and the IDENTICAL one was on sale for £6.99! I don't mind the lack of frills - all I want to do when I shop is get it and go home, without having to have meaningless exchanges with the check out girl 'Doyouneedanyhelpwithyourpackings? Are you collecting the vouchers? Did you find everything you needed?' etc. And MY Lidls is currently staffed by some rather nice looking young men who smile shyly at me.....ooooh, lovely! OC |

MOVED OVER TO AMERICA AND WAS DELIGHTED TO FIND AN ALDI, HUBBY WAS VERY GREATFUL I'M A CHEAP SHOPPER. YOU TRY THE THINGS AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM YOU DON'T BUY THEM AGAIN. LUCKILY MY KIDS LIKE MOST OF THE THINGS I BUY FROM THERE. NOTHING WRONG WITH SAVING MONEY AND THE KIDS GET OTHER TREATS BECAUSE OF IT. FIONA. X |
