My O.H wasn't the least bit interested until one day, stuck on my Tree temporarily, I started on his. Have done so much more on his than mine now. Have even visited the village where his family lived all through the 1800's. Not bad for someone who didn't even know his Grandparents names, Linda

Mine think it's boring and a waste of time, but like all genealogists know, it's addictive. It's heartbreaking when you hit that brick wall and can't get any further, but the joy when you find another link in the chain, another leaf on the twig, another twig on the branch, another branch on the tree, etc.

My family think I am absolutely mad they just cannot understand why I have this hobby. They find it boring and dull and they think I should get a life, no pun intended. But hey ho who cares, I don't I can't imagine what I did before I got hooked on this, I love it. An extra bonus is meeting all the lovely peeps on here. Happy digging!! Sue

We are all interested in the Family so makes it easier to get them involved. Like yourself Christmas Cracker I promised my Dad I would do my very best to find history of his real parents.He was fostered and was told too little about them. I searched for years, but unfortunately when I had a breakthrough(finding his sister) they had both died the same year.I'm still plodding on!! Hope you don't mind Carol but I have printed out your verse. Mauxxx

Partner couldn't care less about his family tree, BUT fully understands what he calls my 'obsession with the dead people'. He dutifully looks through the presentation folders from time to time, understood my need to get into the Dublin GRO on a surprise awaybreak he'd planned, and offers to buy me software as presents. That's really lovely, Carol - have a great Christmas, by the way. I wrote a lighthearted poem earlier this year, which was printed in the Practical Family History mag and Northants FHS yearbook. Here it is, especially for you (and anyone else who appreciates a bit of the rhyming stuff LOL): MY GENEALOGY I have this newfound hobby – Called genealogy – Finding dead and long lost relatives To build a family tree. My daughter thinks I'm crazy For raking up the dead She says I should leave well alone And have some fun instead. But this is my obsession! I love it to the core I spend hours on my research Until my eyes are sore. Hidden skeletons abound Long kept secrets, saving grace They fall out of the cupboard And smack you in the face! It's like playing at detectives Solving mysteries galore And discovering brand new cousins That you never knew before. I've caught the family history bug! It's in my veins for sure. Hi, my husband tries to be intresed but it goes over his head. my daughter has no intrest at all . the only one that is intrested is my son but he lives 200odd miles away, but he did ask me if i would print out the family tree for him , which i did do . and he said to keep him informed of anything that i find so at least i have one member of my family thats keen hazelx

Ancestors The special book upon the shelf was made with many hands. Our ancestors who posed back then all came from different lands. Their pictures were all tucked away and rarely did we see, The importance of these treasures is The start of you and me. The history of our families now here in black and white Preserved with special care and time Each page is done just right. When time permits, we take it down and think of days long past. Our hopes, our dreams, our heritage All safe and made to last. Life is a scrapbook, torn and old In which our little lives are told, And when the twilight shadows fall This is the sweetest thing of all; To turn the pages of the years, Remembering with happy tears The faithful love, the perfect friend... These things are treasured to the end.

My family think that my research is a waste of time, energy and money, but that's their problem. I keep telling them that it keeps me out of mischief anyway! The only person who is interested is my mum, but she finds the different generations confusing unless I print it all out for her. It would be nice sometimes to have someone to share my information with, but I can always find someone on here to 'bore' anyway!

Mine think I am researching why your belly button gets purple fluff in it. Haven't the heart to tell them that since the invention of duvets I can't find any. Aileen xxx

...my daughter despairs of me...my sisters are bored of me...my mum puts up with me...my friends ignore me...BUT... ...I love it and I won't give it up and they can think I'm as mad as a hatter and feel sorry for me as much as they like (because apparently 'I have no life' whilst I am digging around for dead people and spending hours and hours on my research, according to them). But this is my little pleasure in life and maybe one day someone from a future generation of mine might also feel the same and appreciate all the hard work I've put into the family tree (here's hoping my descendents don't just bin all my research once I pop my clogs, eh? LOL) I think I will have to write a clause in my Will that in order for my daughter to inherit anything from me she has to promise to store my research files somewhere safe and pass them on to her offspring when they are older - can just imagine the look on her face LOL!
