Couldn't agree more. There was a letter in our local paper this week saying 'Christmas doesn't have to be religious!' If Christmas doesn't have to be religious then perhaps it shuld be called something else and held on another day and the people who want Christmas ie. a celebration of Christ's birthday could carry on as usual. We could have Christmas on one day then ' lets all go mad, have presents, get drunk,be as commercial as the media wants 'on another day I am offended by the PC killjoys. Perhaps it is time to stand up and be counted but would anyone listen? Chris,( going off at a tangent I know!) Hope you all have a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS! even if you do win a pork pie in a raffle! |

I think the Christian Community is missing an opportunity here. Surely with falling Church attendances we can claim to be a persecuted minority by now? |

Does anyone have personal knowledge of a Muslim, or a Jew, or a Sikh, or any other religion, being offended by Christmas? Our local Indian Restaurant has Xmas decorations up, so they can't be all that bothered...so does the Chinese Restaurant..... Yes, just who IS offended by Christmas, please? (On a religious basis, that is) OC |

Some of my local shopkeepers are Muslim - their shops are decorated at this time of year with lights and other Christmas decorations. They are not in the least offended by our Christmas celebrations - and in fact they themselves are more offended by the PC brigade!! I know this because they have told me so. Mary |

As far as I was aware Muslims recognise Jesus as a prophet. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. One bloke who was a Muslim did get offended at hubby's work as no-one sent him a Christmas card. |

Guidelines are only suggestions when all said and done. Aren't we the daft ones for subscribing to all this nonsense? Shouldn't we just get on with doing what we believe to be right, trusting that if someone is offended by our actions they will quietly and politely tell us? Contrary to what the news would have us believe, that is what happens the vast majority of the time - if in fact any offence is taken at all. Whatever happened to common sense and reason? A person could have a nervous breakdown trying to second-guess every porrible reaction to every possible action. I must find me a cave so I can become a hermit and not interact with another human being ever again - just in case! :-) |

Pippa That reminds me of years ago, working in an office, and one of the ladies was a Sikh. In those politically incorrect days, lol, we all gave her Christmas Cards and she joined in with the Secret Santa etc, but did not attend the Xmas Office Party. When it came round to HER religious festival, she brought in special sweets and small gifts - we all sat around and asked her questions about her religion. I don't remember either side being offended or upset and in fact I think it only added to our understanding of each other. OC |
