Sue, if they do go around Liverpool itself, tell them to look up. A lot of shops and banks in Liverpool look fairly modern but you'll miss the grand old buildings above. If you are interested in Liverpool, I'll put on my thinking cap and ask friends to see what they suggest. They may not appreciate it or maybe they will - there's a few tourist buses that can take them around Liverpool if they are interested. There's a magical mystery tour. Also, I've never been on one myself but there's a couple of 'ducks' that go around the city and onto the river lol, http://www(.)theyellowduckmarine(.)co(.)uk/ I like the art gallery in Liverpool - it has some beautiful paintings. There's also the Tate gallery at Albert Dock. There's the museum too, although I haven't had a proper opportunity to look around since it's renovation. Merseyside maratime museum is also very good!! That's in the albert dock. For those with Liverpudlian ancestors, they may want to visit the 4th floor of central library to some genealogical research lol The library building is not that impressive as it was bombed in the war so it was partly rebuilt. I don't like the building except for the old part which is domed and is quite beautiful, The Empire theatre also has quite a few musicals/operas/ballet depending when you go. Last year they had heritage open days across liverpool when they opened the backstage of the theatre and other buildings. There's also the Matthew Street music festival which you may want to visit or avoid if you don't like crowds. Its very good though, http://www.visitliverpool.com/site/product-p16228 You may wish to contact the tourist information to enquire when the best time to visit is. |

THANK YOU ALL for answering this thread. As it is for the OAP'S(which I will be 1 of them later this year) lol and as we all go by coach it is a lot easier. I will google all the liverpool sites as they love going round old churches and mills as it brings back memories for them and keeps them feeling young. Ron As I said earlier you are a mine of information and thanks I will be printing this info off so that when we have a meeting with the pensioners. Hugs From another thread killer SueXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX |

Museums incl War Museum, LS Lowry museum, Industrial museum with one large building devoted to aircraft, steam loco ride and loads of other things. Kids science area - I liked it - I was 65 last time I visited! Has cafe but think lot of people would prefer to eat in the city. Ron |

Were do I start? http://www(.)visitliverpool(.)com/site/what-to-do There's the cathedral - well there's two. At certain times of year you can visit the top of the Anglican one and get a good view. Then there's Albert Dock There's also the ferry ride on the Mersey. You can also visit the aquarium at Seacombe on the Wirral (haven't been there but is supposed to be very good) Website for Wirral tourist attractions: http://www(.)wirral(.)gov(.)uk/tourism(.)asp Going back to Liverpool It's quite near Knowsley safari park. There's Speke Hall which is quite near Liverpool. (Haven't been there since I was little) In the summer they have outdoor plays. Must try and get there this year. They also are supposed to dress up in costume on certain days of the year. It's meant to be very good. http://www(.)nationaltrust(.)org(.)uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-spekehall/ Liverpool is quite near Southport where there's lots of beach and lots of shops. http://www(.)visitsouthport(.)com/ Formby is quite near Southport and they have a red squirrel nature reserve there. It's relatively close to Chester which has lots of history with its own cathedral and river. Lots of nice shops. It's also got a zoo. http://www(.)visitchester(.)com/chester/home Nearer to Manchester, you've also got Quarry bank Mill (Styal Mill) if you want a bit of history and to know about the cotton industry. http://www.quarrybankmill.org.uk/ Don't forget the lake district - it's beautiful there. There's loads to see - just google. |

Sue From another who gets ignored (and usually causes threads to die) how about OSWALDTWISTLE MILLS (between Accrington & Blackburn) You will get to the online site if you google 'Oswaldtwistle Mills'. Someone else mentioned Eden Camp. Ensure none of your people suffer from claustrophobia. We went there and some exhibits. are in darkness and when the air-raid siren goes off I found it very scary and the dog was scared too. Hope this has been of help Hazel (Lancs/Yorks genes mixture) |

Just recently moved to Burnley well, someone had to!. Foothills of Pendle Hill, breathtaking scenery, Pendle Inn does good food I believe, gorgeous drive around the Forest of Bowland, look out for 'Mother Dendyke' and her clan, especially around Halloween! Sorry, that should read 'Demdyke' - Hazel, which witch are you?! |

WALES- SNOWDON A lovely trip BUT expensive cost over £12 each some years ago. You book in advance of the train journey so might have a long wait as very popular It also depends on wot weathers like. We were lucky and got to the top and had great views. Trains uncomfortable - wooden seats. I understand that sometimes due weather (low cloud) train only goes half way up. Not a trip for anyone who suffers vertigo (or piles!) and they would need to be very careful on the summit - it ain't fenced! |

DERBYSHIRE put Well Dressings in search engine and there should be a program for all the well dressings in Derbyshire. Some villages also have village fetes at same time. The well dressings are a work of art and in some villages the local churches are 'dressed' inside. I'm into Industrial Museums and the National Trust but I like the well dressings. |

Already been mentioned but York has several museums and shopping. The National Railway Museum - free admission, a very large museum, cafe and restaurent (expensive eating tho'). Would probably be of interest to both sexes as in addition to loco's there's also royal carriages, massive collections of artifacts etc etc. There's the Castle Museum with a Street Setting in one part and covers all sorts of things admission charge applies tho, been there and enjoyed it. The the Jorvic trip admission charges apply, never tried it but it's underground in Viking ere complete with pongs! Trips on the river. Can walk 'the walls' in some places. There's York Minster but again a charge is made. Some other museums as well. Couldn't take it all in in a day. Hope this helps. Ron |
